We had a project whereby there is commenting of one's work on our school forum. I did not add " " after an original citation though I had the references in the reference list and the (surname, year). One of the student said that this is Piagarism. The forum is accessible to the entire cohort. I feel that it is too harsh an accusation, what would you do if you are in my situation? Honestly I feel like sending my lawyers over.

I would call it a typo...

Explain your position on the board. Detail your supporting facts. Demonstrate to others that is was obviously a typo. Then chastise the individual accusing you of plagiarism for simply making a typo. EVERYONE makes typos, and I am sure most would see your side of it.

    God bless America....

But seriously, I'd simply say, "No, it's not plagiarism, it was a typo. It happens."

    And then I'd move on.

I agree with the previous three responses.

On the positive side you know that somebody is reading your comments.
