I'm still trying to figure out how to go to the last unread post rather than the latest post. Can we still do that or am I just confused?

It'll take some getting used to but I'm glad it was done. All that happened was an upgrade to the latest version of VBulletin. This should allow us to use Avatars and imbed videos in our posts.

.....And while I'm at it....let me have the honors of posting the first video to Degree Info.....

Looks like they've turned off avatar use for now. They know many won't use it, especially, some of us that are fond of attacking people or institutions. The site is way better now and kudos to the team.

All in good time. There's a lot of stuff for the tech/admin team to get up to speed on, avatars are on the list :)

  7. Nevermind, the icon appears for me now! I am happy. :)

So, I was about to start a new thread titled "What the Crap?!?!?!" But then I found this one.

Do my eyes deceive me? Do we now have fully functional smileys? Sweet.

Haha...yeah the smilies were a little crazy. I tend to use them too so it's nice to see them working. I like the look but it's tough getting used to the small font...the other font was a lot larger. All in all a good fresh look for the site...

I can actually log in without getting booted back to the registration page! Oh yeah and also one other important point, I can post to forums again!! Good riddance to the old v bulletin version!

I'm highly in favor of everything working :), bravo!
I'm still processing the new design.

I applaud the fact that I was finally able to create a user account! No more lurking! I've been here over a month, but every time I tried to register I got an http 500 error.

    Mixed feelings.

The overall system and design is better. The new banner is horrible design-wise.

The search function still sucks (seems I'll still have to use google to search here).

I'd like to know who was the genius that invented those search system for message boards where the system decides that
some words are "illegal" because they are too short (so, here we can't search "MA", "BA", "NA, "RA" or "UK", all of them very common terms in our discussions).

I'm intrigued by the blog feature. I'm not so sure about the new appearance.

You might be seeing it in a nonstandard width. IT does look godawful on a screen less than about 1200 wide. And the whole banner is janky and will be replaced, it's temporary so we don't have a "VBulletin" logo at the top.
Let me know if that's still the case as of this evening. We rebuilt the entire search index today which should have helped a lot, but if it's still unreliable, there are some other options we have with the new version.

The genius is me. :) vBulletin allows constraining the minimum search string size, because on a discussion community as large as degreeinfo (we have close to 10,000 visitors a day), we have to constrain the amount of resources available to each user. Allowing one or two-character searches would take far more processor and memory resources, per user, than requiring a minimum string length. We're aware of the problem that causes, and it is something I am looking into being able to solve in the future, it will just require more server resources than we currently have available.

I hate it, but don't take that too seriously, I'm pretty OCD and generally hate change.

    I 2nd that

that is the dumbest thing ever
I read computer gaming boards and search for
    PvP
a common abbreviation for player versus player, it tells me PvP is too short
    I'll search for
    beta
and it tells me beat is too common of a word
    ? ? ?

the search for those boards is pretty much uselsess

    Okay:

    1. how do you go to the most recent post in topic?

    2. how do you indicate (without going into each topic) that you are doing with that topic?

What a minute, the problem is not finding the new post, but identifying the unread posts! You can no longer go by the color of the letter. So how do you tell unread topics?
