In the main forum, Nicole of Cal State Dominguez Hills confirms that the new joint venture with Long Beach will yield a diploma with two schools on it. I wonder if this has been done before. But the notion of two-school diplomas certainly opens up great potential for the future.

We could start with a joint program from the Pratt Institute and the College of Great Falls.

Elizabeth City State U. and Taylor U.

    Smith and Jones.

Paine U. and Cape Fear College.

Dr. Scholl College (in Ill.) and Cornell (or Foothill).

    I'll go now.

    U. of the West Indies. Jones International.

OK, here's something new entirely. Assumed there would be a Harrison College (to go with Fordham), believing that every president until Nixon had been so honored. But no. Since President Harrison (the first) lasted all of 30 days as president before dying, what a fine image for a fly-by-night operation, to name it for the Hero of Tippecanoe.

    Clark U. and Kent State

Paine might also want to explore a joint program with Mercy.

Reverting to the serious aspect of this: there's an ad in today's San Francisco paper for a combined MBA from Berkeley and Columbia. Apart from having two of the worst football teams in creation, not clear what else they have in common, such as a diploma.

What about Indiana University/Purdue Univeristy at Indianapolis? I wonder what their degrees say. People in the area call it IUPUI and pronounce it yeweypewey.

Too bad Boston University and Rennselaer Polytechnic don't combine to offer degrees in hospitality, where you could get a degree in the culinary arts from BURP.

Degrees at IUPUI are issued by either IU or Purdue, depending on subject, not by IUPUI, which does not issue degrees in its own right. For example, my wife's JD will read "Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis," not IUPUI. IUPUI is run by Indiana University, altho' it administers certain Purdue degree programs; likewise, IUPU Ft Wayne is run by Purdue...

(It's a complicated story, inolving regional campuses of the state universities instead of a community college system. Suffice to say, the State Legislature was involved.)

and then there's the satellite campus of IUPUI, itself the joint campus of the two major state universities, at Columbus -- inventively known as IUPU Columbus.
