I am thinking back to my literature days at UOI. There was a literary luminary around the mid to later 1700's that suffered from depression, and become addicted to opium. I think the last name was Coolridge?

    Anyone?

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, perhaps best known for "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner"

I especially like his "conversation poems" and the fact that he was maybe the original goth.
