I got a good offer for a job today. The pay stinks but the benefits are crazy good!!! Medical, dental, 401K and tuition reimbursement. The pay is $12 an hour plus a commission, so let’s say $14 an hour.

Here’s the thing that’s got me wanting the job, they pay $125 a credit hour, and as many classes as you want to take all year long. The HR lady told me today if you want to use it for U of P that would be great. It got me thinking if she thinks U of P is great, this company has got to be very pro DL. They also offer 100% tuition reimbursement for anyone who enrolls or is enrolled at SFASU.

Any job is better than no job. Be careful letting benefits sway you too much. While tuition assistance is great you have to weigh the cost of not taking a better paying job when offered. Your Social Security is one area to consider and the long term impact. Although a matching 401K would be a great asset.

Personally, I would jump on the tuition assistance to complete the cheapest, fastest Bachelors possible and ask for a pay raise....

But $14/hour isn't bad in most places, and especially if the medical benefits match the tuition assistance in value, I'd go for it. Sounds like you are optimistic about the value, and if you like the job that's what really counts.

Besides, B4 clearly has a good grip on how to spend his money based on his college choices and involvement in this forum.

Sounds like a good offer, man! I'd love to get that offer someday.

    Cheers!

WOW! I would hit that up. Especially if the alternative is no job at all :)

I have been looking for work for a while now, I had an internship lined up but I'm thinking its not going to happen so I have been dropping app's like crazy. I have drove past this office building for years and had no idea what the heck they were so I stopped in a week or so ago. Boom! Online customer support/chat is what I will be doing. This is just a tiny part of the company, the other 99.999% is over in India. I think they just have an office here so they can say we hire Americans. Its also the office new customers see when they sign contracts with the company. There’s like 30 people in this office and like 5,000 in India…lol

You know what man? Take it and use the hell out of all the benefits. It's hard times here in CA job wise. I read in the paper a McDonald's got mobbed with thousands of people (many degreed) begging for a minimum wage job!

Take it brother! Use the time to get as many low cost degrees as you can, and have them pay for it!

At many companies one has to work for a specified time after receiving tuition reimbursment or 401K matching payments; otherwise one has to pay back some of the cost on leaving.

Just be careful to read the fine print.

I remember a long time ago I worked for a company that offered tuition reimbursement. But the company worked you like a dog to the point nobody could take advantage of it. Also back then, there weren't many online programs, if any or at least I was aware of. One person who tried taking a class kept falling asleep during work and eventually had to drop the class. I got the feeling while I was employed there that the managers weren't too fond of employees trying to take classes at night because they thought it would affect their work performance. I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.

Albertson's used to do that, even though they didn't even pay tuition reimbursement. Managers would purposely changes people shifts so they couldn't go to school. After course, their labor law violation record is nothing to sneeze at, so it tells you what they think of their workers. Joe Albertson must be rolling over in his grave.

Well I went in today to finish my paper work and was informed they might have to wait till Sept 15 before fill any spots. I was offered a $9 an hour job, and you know what I might just have to take at this point..... I don't know what to do.....$9 an hour plus up to $10,000 in free education a year and full medical benifits vs. nothing
