This morning I got an email from Sallie Mae saying I had a new student loan document available. After fiddling with the site and trying to get my stupid password to work, I finally got in. I have a letter stating that my payment terms have been updated, and that the deferment I had until 2012 was gone. My payment is due on the 24th. What the heck? That's 13 days? To top it all off, my wife just lost her job, so we're already in a financial crunch.

Any idea why they might have changed this? I have not dropped my class with WNMU yet, so technically I'm still enrolled. The only thing I can think of is that I submitted a loan forgiveness application because I completed 5 years of teaching in a low income school division. That would result in my loan amount being decreased by 5K. Could that have triggered this?

Has anyone else had something like this happen?

    Thanks!

Is there a minimum number of credits that you have to carry in order to sustain the deferral?

Not that I'm aware of. I was enrolled for 3 credits, and I took 3 credits in the summer and last fall...
