I just got done watching the Bulldogs beat Colorado. Way to go! Great game, came down to the very last play as time ran out.

Your Fresno State is picking up right where they left off playing the Spartans in the first Silicon Valley Bowl in San Jose last year. They have to be one of the most exciting teams in the country to watch.

BTW, why is it officially called CSU Fresno, but all the sports teams call themselves Fresno State? They sound confused to me.

I still remember when I was a student at Cal Poly SLO around 1970, driving that long dark two lane highway over the hills to Fresno on hot evenings with my friends to watch the Mustangs play the Bulldogs who were in the same league long ago, pre-WAC.

Oh no, I sure hope this isn't a degree mill scenario coming to light. [IMG]

Fresno State just dominated Oregon State (#12 in the nation). One of the most exciting and impressive football games I've seen in many years.

Fresno set a record for attendance in their stadium, several thousand over capacity. By all reports half those people were pro football scouts checking out Fresno quarterback David Carr.

I am a longtime 49'er fan, and I have to say that Carr reminds me of Joe Montana. Not so much in his style of play as in the weird bubble of coolness that surrounds him. The pocket is collapsing around him and Carr is not bothered in the least. He's standing in there, finding his third and fourth receivers, and delivering a laser-guided pass that only five or so college quarterbacks could throw.

If he doesn't self-destruct this year, he could easily go in the first round in the draft.

But one thing has left me confused. During halftime, Fresno State played one of those promotional ads you see in college games, and CSU Fresno called itself "California's premier university for real time minds".

    OK... I guess so.

    Next up: Wisconson.

Fresno State just demolished Wisconson 32-20.

After looking flat in the first half and going into the locker room down 20-10, they roared out and scored 22 unanswered points in the second half!

I guess their coach told them they would have to walk all the way back to Fresno from Madison if they lost...

Trust me, we have all been as surprised as the rest of the world. I think Fresno State is now ranked #11. Probably our most famous recent football grad would be Trent Dilfer. For them to be able to beat those teams is just amazing!

Yes, the CSUF/FSU thing is rather a puzzle. Those not into sports prefer the CSUF on their resumes (because who knows where Fresno is?). This has actually been a political issue on campus and with alumni. They even hired an image consultant. What it eventually came down to is what you see - FSU for sports, and CSUF for everything else.

    Hi Tom,

My dad is a grad of Fresno State (BA, MA). I still remember living in Fresno when I was ages 2-6 as he finshed up his degrees.

My biggest complaint is that FS (at #11) is ranked higher than my Washington Huskies!!?? :) However, just for Dad .... Go Bulldogs!

Aahh, that probably accounts for our shared warped personalities: too much prolonged exposure to Fresno!

Washington Huskies? Do they play football?

    <evil grin>
