Here is a quote from an article on education in South Africa from the Economist Magazine, June 5th - 11th, 2010, P. 14. ..............Jonathan Jansen, the first non-white vice-chancellor of the University of the Free State, says that at least three-quarters of South Africa's 23 higher-education establishments are "fraudulent and bad, not really universities at all."..................... Could this statement give prospective employers doubts about SA degrees?
I reckon he's got a chip on his shoulder and talking out of his @ss. If he's statement is true then he should be really worried as University of the Free State is not really one of the top tier universities here, and there are quite a few. It's well regarded but hardly first choice for most. In terms of respect from people here the top SA universities are (in no particular order as they tend to have areas where they excel) University of Cape Town (UCT), University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Rhodes University, Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria. These all have international acclaim for their excellence and often groundbreaking research etc.
