Has anyone else taken the leap? I did. I enjoy. Possibly one of the best email client's I have ever worked with... -Steve King
I played with one for the first time on Saturday. Very nice, and I expect I will get one, in a release or two. Phillip
I'm more interested in going smaller. For such a machine my needs are quite modest. Email, word processing, connect to degreeinfo if I'm off-site.
I'm moving closer. But it may be a while, because of the amazing discovery (well, I was amazed) that my iPod Touch can function as a telephone. Turning the iPod Touch into a phone | Apple - CNET News Who knew. (Well, not me.)
Why go for the iPad... As one with laptop and desktop, I chose the iPad for its resolution - particularly in reading .pdf documents (plethora of apps available to do this...). Some of my other posts have illustrated that I am in the midst of a job change and there exists hundreds of .pdf documents of which I am trying to read (and trying to find the quickest way to RHIA certification). As long as I am near a decent WIFI service...the WWW browsing is pretty good. John, I'll have to look at the C-net link! My son opted for the iTouch for its size. The iPad is a little bulky but not too bad. - Steve King
I will wait for the 3G version to release. As with all Apple products (and electronics in general), I believe that the 2nd generation models are much better then the first.
I would think the iPad really convenient as an ebook reader and other media access features. I am sure you can get on Blackboard without any problem, but I just hate Apple wants more money form you. $499.00 for 16GB, Want double? pay $100.00 more. Want double again? well, pay another $100.00 more.
Noted, but truthfully, how many people really need to carry 16 G worth of stuff with them everywhere they go? I mean, yes it's convenient to not have to do any file management but does anyone need to carry their entire music collection or movie collection? I think the larger issue with the iPad is that you have two models, one with 3G and one without. While there are no doubt people who don't need to be online when out in the "wild", I can't see the value of this device without an always on, persistent Internet connection. That stated, Apple held off on the second device because the 3G chip manufacturer was dorking around with Apple on the price. Jobs opted to wait until the price of the chip fell and the manufacturer opted to gouge Apple regardless. Business is business I suppose.
