Obama claims that unemployment is his #1 priority in the US, but then he turns around and grants as much as 2 million Haitians the legal right to work all at once. Of course, they also get the right to bring in relatives from Haiti.

Excellent point! My only concern is why are you watching Fox News? Any station that would hire someone as incompetent as Sarah Palin to give "insight and analysis", I would view w/trepidation. If their intent is to bring a little humor to TV, well, they hit a double off the wall. It remains to be seen if she scores. Methinks she isn't catching the right signs and will get picked off. Maybe the current administration can get some of that ridiculous bonus money from the banks to help put our people back to work. After all, they helped bail out the banks, now it's the banks turn to step to the plate. Batter up!

Palin is not the only one being picked up by fox news. They have Lou Dobbs from CNN and Conan O' Brian from NBC that may switch to fox.

Our current administration is not setting the right example if they want banks to pay up.

    Where's the outrage?

The Obama administration recently approved base salaries of $900,000, plus $3.1 million in deferred payments, and another $2 million in bonuses for the CEOs of the failed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The $6-million compensation packages were approved by the Treasury Department and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and made public on Dec. 24, 2009, Christmas Eve.

    http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/59848

US President Barack Obama has expressed anger at $165m (£116m) bonuses pledged to executives of bailed-out insurer AIG, calling the payments "an outrage".

"It's hard to understand how derivative traders at AIG warranted any bonuses, much less $165m in extra pay," he said.

He has told Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to "pursue every single legal avenue" to block the bonuses.

What I ask of our current and any future administration, republican or democrat, is consistency and accountability.

Stud, your right! The words "outrage and anger" spoken by elected officials means nothing. BS lip service. The poor have been getting screwed and the middle class is being trampled on. Imagine what $$$ they would have gotten had they performed their jobs. As for Conan, who gives a crap. He's getting millions and people are making a fuss for him. Enuff already!

Why isn't this in the Political Discussions forum?

Don't blame the 2 millions for trying to get work. This decision is mainly political as Haitians have been one of the groups that were always denied Protected Status to work here (as opposed to Nicaraguans, Somalis or Nigerians...). I just hope that this time, the humanitarian aid will last beyond the initial phase of "everyone is paying attention on tv" and will focus on better building the country now that the capital is pretty much leveled down. This would do more to elevate America's international stature than simply delivering speeches everywhere and caving in to other countries' Niet answers.

I doubt the people who oppose this move give a shit about those two million people or the ones suffering in Haiti itself. It's just a kneejerk reaction against anything Obama says. I mean, I'm no Obama fan either, and for a long list of reasons, but he's right here, and opposing something like this is the most unbelievably meanspirited and unneighborly position I can think of right now.

1 out of 50 Americans only income are food stamps, and how about compassion for the 2 million Americans that will be out of work because of the Haitian amnesty? There are no new jobs being created, so please tell me where these jobs are coming from for the Haitians besides pushing Americans out of work?

    No new jobs? Bah!

A new bowling alley is opening up in my county in a few weeks. It's hiring over 100 people. See! There ARE jobs being created. :)

Your premise is flawed. If those individuals are already present in the U.S. (as Secretary Napolitano estimated), they're likely already employed (without employment authorization).

100 jobs at a "new bowling alley"! You sure it isn't a cover for some other activity? I would monitor that situation closely........ I think you stumbled across something big......
Or just more fuzzy math by the new administration, I thought only Bush used those accounting methods.

Maybe you mean 100 jobs were created.

As for Haitians working in America, it should be understandable why people are concerned. It probably isn't as much about not having compassion for them as is it about protecting what few jobs we have left.

It just occurred to me that they forgot the automatic pin setters at the bowling alley, hence 100 jobs. Maybe I was wrong! What county is this anyway?

Lancaster, Virginia. It's actually more than just a bowling alley. It's going to have a cafeteria in it and some other things. The whole place has been in the works for a while, and it's schedule to open this spring.

Lancaster? Do they even have electricity out there? <grin>

Actually, I've been through the Lancaster area a few times... IIRC it was nice with a rural charm... But not too exciting.

I'm glad I left VA, 30 years there was more than enough.

    Electricity - Yes...
    Broadband Internet - No...

You're right... It's not very exciting at all, which is rather humorous because one of the towns is called Lively. It's not very lively at all.
