What is the term for a person who creates organizational problems so they can be seen as the person who fixes them?

It seems like this is a standard term, but it escapes me…

hmmm. this may be somewhat related to another thread entitled "ethical hacking," some who is hired expressly for the purpose of discovering the vulnerabilities in a system.

    - my last boss

Actually, he didn't fix them. He just took credit for us fixing them.

Thanks, I think this is technically correct, but hard to put in layman’s terms.

The best I have come up with to describe this phenomena is that the person is a combination “arsonist/firefighter” which seems to get the point across. I do seem to remember a more common term, but it continues to escape me..

There is an organization management term that encompasses what you are describing. I cannot remember it off the top of my head. If I have time, I will try to look it up in one of my textbooks.

    David,

    I had a few goes:

    1) Organisational Duplicity
    2) Organisational Neurosis

Anything to not do my lit review...

    All the best,
