When I lived in Tokyo I passed by Hachiko's statue almost every day. Broke my heart every time thinking about that dog.

What were you doing in Tokyo?

I lived in Saitama for 7 years, and like everyone else used Hachiko for a meeting place in Tokyo.

Oh, lots of things. :D I moved to Japan after completing my undergrad to practice Judo at the Kodokan. After a year I ran out of money (Tokyo will do that to you), I started working for a Japanese HR company. I also did some English teaching and taught scuba diving. Was there about 5 years in all.

Then I moved to Edinburgh to finish the EBS MBA, and learned about Greyfriars Bobby . Now I'm a total dog person and rescued this beast when people were afraid to adopt him.

"Then I moved to Edinburgh...and learned about Greyfriars Bobby ."

    From that site:
"...1867 licensed . . . [t]he people of Edinburgh looked after the faithful Bobby while he watched over his master... Bobby died in 1972."

    At the age of 116?

For several years I owned a pure white Akita just like Hachiko. I also had a Pinto (black and white) female. Great dogs.

He's lovely, Edowave! But not so tiny to judge by the size of that paw!

Yes, and my hands are not very small.

He was found by animal control on the side of a highway during the 2005 hurricane season. His original family probably lost their home. They had him for a while thinking someone would claim him, but nobody did.

He was then bounced around to several animal rescue groups, but they couldn't find anyone to adopt him because of his size. A friend of mine told me about him, and I felt so bad for him, so I adopted him. He's been a loyal friend ever since.
