    Hello,

I have been offered a Director spot (one of four) in a newly forming non profit having to do with burn victims. Has anyone here been a Director in this type of situation (non profit or otherwise)? Obviously, I would imagine it is volunteer (no pay). What kind of things would be expected of me? I would really like to do it, but I am wondering if I have the time.

I am also wondering if it is more of a do what you can type of thing.

    Comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Abner

    Abner,

you will want to clarify your exact duties. I know when I did consulting work for non profits I had to have our legal approve any work I did for them (potential for conflict of interest). Your state may have similar rules as we do in the federal sector.

As for duties I have seen everything from public relations, to fundraising (including grant applications), to lobbying, to day to day supervision of paid staff.

Most of the folks I know in these positions seem very busy and seem to never have the number or quality of staff.

You might also try looking on Monster (or others) for jobs that would fall in line with the position.

Best of luck, it seems like a worthy cause.
