I will be finishing my bachelors degree (IT concentration) with COSC soon, and I was curious as to how some people put it on their resume since it's a general studies degree.

Is it acceptable to put "B.S.G.S. in Information Systems"? I want to emphasize the "information systems" part and not the "general studies" part, if that makes sense. I was going to put "B.S. in Information Systems Studies", but it just didn't look right. I can see the HR people raising an eyebrow.

I suppose this won't make a difference once I get a masters degree.

Always state the degree as issued. I believe for COSC in your case this would be:

    BS Information Technology Concentration

I think COSC only issues BA or BS with concentrations

But, I'm sure a couple of folks with COSC degrees will stop by. I know Steve Foerster lists his IS concentration as above.

Use the following format for a resume - after looking at the COSC website I do not think it is misleading.

Bachelor of Science (IT Concentration) - Charter Oak State College - 2009

Personally I would leave off the date as it is often used to estimate an applicants age (although age can sometimes be estimated by other info on a resume).

    I have mine listed as:
    ·BS – Individualized Studies (Technology & Business) - Charter Oak State College – 2003

A concentration vs a major depends on the school. Some schools have majors with concentrations as a subset. (business major, hospitality concentration).

Also, some schools use the word major and others use concentration to mean the exact same thing. Only in the case where a concentration is a subset of a major would it mean something different. Rhey really are the same thing. Harvard uses concentrations not majors too.

Simply, just list your degree. What is the actual title? Use that. Is it BS or BSGS?
