I don't know about Denmark specifically, but you can often find really good deals on Skyauction.com. Just be a little careful because the prices do not include taxes and fees, which can often be a couple hundred bucks extra.

Also, I haven't tried recently, but I used to get insane deals on Priceline using the "name your own price" option; you can put a really-low-but-plausible number in, and even when it says "it's unlikely this will be accepted", my experience is that about half the time it gets accepted anyway. Only catch with Priceline is, you don't know which airline, time of day, or routing; it will probably be some less-than-ideal routing and time of day, but the price can be half or less of the lowest advertised rate.

www.kayak.com, the one I try first, shows that the last relatively cheap day to travel to Copenhagen is May 19 ($568 from NY for instance). Then summer fares kick in, in the 7 and 800s. Then it gets cheap(er) again in early Sept. ($530 on Sept. 8).

What bugs me about flying internationally are the taxes. I just bought two round trip tickets between Los Angeles and London - Total cost was $1,731 consisting of $992 for airfare and $739 for taxes and fees (A tax of 75%).
