I am happy to be hosting the Waifs Thanksgiving dinner this year. The house is clean (at least as clean as it ever is) and the fridge is full of all kinds of goodies. Some of the other waifs will be by in the morning to help with the prep. Others will spill in as the local high school football games end. It's my favorite holiday of the year. Giving thanks for everything I have. Thanks to you all and I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Holidays to you as well!!!! Thanksgiving is my favorite day. I love turkey and can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! And since I am talking about food, I will develop an accent, MUY sabroso!!!!!!!!!! That's for you Jennifer. Once again, Happy T day to all! May the lord care for those without. Abner
>> Abner, you never let me down!! My frig (and garage!) is full too. I'm prepped and ready for bed. Tomorrow I feed 13
No turkey for this ronin (we are moving the celebrations to Christmas, so we can have a big party with all the family), but Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Remember that it's not about the food (doesn't mean it's not important ), but about being grateful. Feliz Dia del Pav....oops, I mean, "Accion de Gracias" *waves at cook* Hope everything does turn out very delicioso.
What exactly is a waifs Thanksgiving? I've heard of the term waif, which apparently refers to a poor orphan. Well, Happy T-giving from the T'meister!
For me it began in college. Some kids either had no family or they were unable to travel home to their family during holidays and so all the waifs would gather at Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. We created a family for ourselves. It was a diverse and sometimes weird family but far better than being alone during the holidays.
Inside the family, we called it "picking up the stranded" or "strays." I like the "waifs" far better. Thanks, I'll use that term from here on. Then there were the military that couldn't get home and home cooked beats mess hall every day. j
