This is video of one of the greatest Grandmasters I have known in my many years of Martial Arts study. G.M. Garza is the one other Grandmasters go to expand their knowledge. Mr. Garza is an expert of various forms of martial arts and specializes in bone breaking, muscle tearing/ripping, joint dislocation, Dim Mak (Death Touch/Meridian pressure point striking/disruption/disabling), smothering and strangulations and the internal arts. A gentle and humble man, yet one of the deadliest men on this earth. He is highly educated, and many of his student have PhD's from well known schools.

If you chose to watch this video, please follow it all the way through in order to truly appreciate it. I hope you enjoy. I am in this video, but I will not say where. :)

Sounds like a real sweetheart. :D

I've often wondered how someone such as that would fare against a UFC champion in a real fight. Bruce Lee was renowned for his street fighting ability, but I have the feeling a lot of traditionalists in martial arts would last about 15 seconds in a UFC ring.

Al is definitely no traditionalist. His fighting is strictly in close. Due to the close proximity of his art, you just don't see the blows coming. UFC fighters are mixed martial artists, and they are effective, but even UFC fighters go to Al for tips. Mr. Garza is well versed in various forms of martial arts, grappling, western boxing, etc. His external strength is developed from internal strength. A grappler trying to grab him would end up knocked out, no question about it. He knows how to exploit motion. The video cannot fully show the devastating affects of one of his in close blows. The strength this guy generates will bring down 6 foot, 300 pounders, I have seen it! Even if a grappler locked down on him (he would have to be really lucky), he would end up letting go due to a broken finger, torn off ear, or a gouged out eye. I am not proud to say it, but in my rowdier days, I have tested this on the street. Let me tell you, jabbing your finger in someones eye until it bleeds will guarantee a win! My other favorite strike? A short quick chop to the trachea! Works every time. No holds barred is the key. Does this stuff work on the street? Yes, if you are prepared to view Martial Arts as a combat art, and nothing else.

    Time for bed,

The obvious question is, why does Mr. Garza not compete in the UFC considering the money that's available?

File this under "things you would never guess about me", but I'm a black belt in Judo. I figured a grappling art would be most useful for my profession, and it has indeed come in very handy many times.

However, the street fighting techniques I've learned are very similar to what you listed (no holds barred) but I didn't need anyone to teach me that, I just learned it from trial and error over the years.

With all due respect to Mr. Garza, it doesn't take a genius to tell me that gouging someone's eyes, punching them in the trachea, or kicking them in the testicles is going to be effective.

Why would he want to compete? This is not to say he has not competed, but at his level he has nothing to prove. I have expert rank in three different arts, and have studied most. All I am saying is this guy is the real deal. Take it or leave it. :)

As far as the eye gouging , ear pulling, etc. My only point was that even UFC does not allow that. So, competition is not completely real. You throw that into the mix, and the parameters of combat change.

Why not just stand away and shoot him? If people turn their bodies into deadly weapons, then I don't see anything wrong with using technical means against them. Apart from the obvious ethical issues of course.

That last is why I'm put off by the martial arts. The martial arts are all about being able to hurt anyone you choose, about being threatening and dominant, while at the same time appearing more centered and even spiritual while doing it. That's the basis of the popular appeal, I think. If you take away the hurting people and competitive/dominance aspect, and focus instead on centering and meditation without all of the fighting, then suddenly nobody's interested.

Obviously, effective hand-to-hand fighting techniques do have utility in our imperfect world. So does the creation of more devastating fragmentation grenades and poison gasses. What bothers me is the quasi-religious aspect, when street-fighters pose as monks.

I disagree with your statement: "The Martial Arts are all about being able to hurt anyone you choose.......". You are mixing up a street thug with a Martial Artist. A true Martial Artist must master fighting arts in conjunction with the spiritual aspects. The last thing I as a Martial Artist want to do is hurt someone, but if you force me into it, I will respond with whatever force I deem necessary. As a Martial Artist, I will always try to walk away from a fight. Sometimes you don't have a choice. I have protected strangers on the street, as my teachings instruct me to do. The aspect of justice is something my first Sensei instilled in me, and 32 years later I still abide by the code of Bushido.

    Respectfully,
