This is great stuff. Thanks. (And one can click to other splendid ICS ads as well.)

I hadn't known that ICS called itself, "The Universal University." (At another time, they referred to themselves as "The University of the Night," in an ad that appears in the book "The 100 Greatest Advertisements").

I believe that ICS used to advertise on matchbook covers. At the age of about eight I remember being extremely impressed with the wonderful checklist of options on the matchbook cover. I asked my Dad about it and he crushed my dreams by saying that they were just taking people's money and it was worthless.

The other ICS story floating around in my idle brain, a few years back there a web designer used to frequent Degreeinfo. He used to work for ICS and said they were little more than a diploma mill. (They are accredited by DETC but that seems to be getting less impressive in my opinion.)

Dear old Dad isn't always right. I thought of using velcro for sneakers way before it actually happened; my Dad said it was a stupid idea, then told me to go cut the grass.

John: Do we all go through a velcro phase? My great idea was to use it for 12-inch long-playing record albums to keep them dust free. My employer at the time paid to get a patent (my one and only) and we were going to share the millions . . . but this was just before the tape cassette came waltzing in, so we made, well, approximately $0. Nice certificate, though.
