Can someone explain to me why this happens on my computer- when I go to a website that should have a photo, I get a little box with a red x. Not always, but a lot. I use aol, but when I go in through internet explorer it happens more often. any ideas?????
Generally you get that x in a box when the link to the image is no longer valid, so all the browser sees is an image tag, so rather than displaying nothing, it'll give that x. Is it the odd website this happens on, or is this a more frequent occurrence ?
>> It happens 100% of the time on my Netflix tabs, which I know are current. Oddly, if I use my AOL, the tabs view fine- but when on Internet Explorer they don't. If on Internet Explorer, every movie cover art is missing. It's not a Netflix thing because my husband's Internet explorer does not have a problem, so that's why I know it is my computer. Another thing this happens 100% of the time is on AOL when I follow a link to a news story. I can't see the photo- yet the story is the day's news. Again, my hubby doesn't have a problem. It's driving me batty! Any ideas are OH SO welcome!!!

Try Firefox (an open source alternative to IE) and see whether that displays things better: http://getfirefox.com It's free, so there's little reason not to give it a try. -=Steve=-
I use FF 99% of the time (only use IE to download MS updates and visit some sites which FF doesn't like - like FHSU's blackboard). It's much better than IE, has less vulnerabilities, has ample add-ons and is more secure. I also don't use outlook or any other of those MS products, so if you're looking for an excellent e-mail program, you can use Eudora, or Mozilla's Thunderbird (same developers as Firefox.) Remember that the vast majority of malware is written for ie, outlook and Winblows in general...
Since you mention add-ons, do you use the IE Tab add-on, so that you can view pages within Firefox but using the IE rendering engine? That way you never have to open IE itself. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 -=Steve=-
>> I shouldn't have titled this thread "computer people." Only those of you with ridiculous levels of patience need reply- but what in the heck are you guys talking about? I don't understand even the question being asked of me. Sorry!?!?!
cookd: click on the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283807 and read through it - it's a Microsoft page that should help you clear up your trouble with internet explorer (IE).
Wooo Hoooo! Now THATS what I'm talking about. Problem solved! Thanks a million. You may resume your techie talk.
