Ohio State is clearly going to be #1 even though they do not play anyone and sit at home and move up.

LSU is probably going to the dance, yet they are currently ranked 7th. They won their conference, but they beat the #14th team to do so.

VT has the same record as LSU, is currently ranked 6th, and they also won their conference. They beat the #11th team BC to win it.

Kansas at #5 has one close loss to the #2 team in the country at the time, yet they are not in the mention.

Hawaii is UNDEFEATED! They beat everyone in front of them, but they are in the WAC which is clearly not the SEC, PAC10, or the ACC.

USC at #8. They lost to Stanford, enough said.

Oklahoma at #9. They lost to Colorado and Texas Tech, enough said.

Georgia at #4. Ranked right behind Ohio State. They were sitting at home just like OSU and they are on a 6 game winning streak, yet they did not win their conference.

Who should play for the BCS championship? Could it be anymore screwed up?

There were so many upsets this year, I don't know if there is a clear #1, although I find it hard to take that an undefeated team (Hawaii) isn't being considered. They're Division IA and haven't lost yet; if they're not worthy of consideration they should be dropped to IAA.

The WAC has Hawaii, which is America's only undefeated 1-A team this year. They have Boise State, which was the only undefeated team last year. The WAC second tier is up-and-coming Nevada and Fresno State, which is inconsistent but capable of beating most teams on a good day (they crushed Kansas State).

    (I'm a WAC fan.)

Those who diss the WAC usually cite strength of schedule. But playing Hawaii, Boise, Nevada and Fresno does mean something, even if the New York sports writers don't follow these schools. And these guys will play any big-time BCS school willing to schedule them. Most run from the prospect. Playing non-BCS powers has little upside and too great a chance of an embarassing upset.

Last night Hawaii came out lackadaisical and quickly got down 21-0 to Washington in the first quarter with some turnovers. It looked like a laugher and I'm sure that most people on the east coast tuned out, since it was already 1 AM. (There are lots of time zones between EST and Hawaii.) But Hawaii finally roused from their slumbers in the second quarter and methodically went about their business 35-7 after that, winning the game 35-28.

They might not defeat Ohio State or LSU if they got the chance to play them, but they wouldn't be embarrassed out there either. It would be an exciting highly-competitive game, like Boise-Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl last year.

Speculation is that Hawaii may be heading for the Sugar Bowl this year. Dunno who they will play. It will definitely be a game to watch.

I actually really like WAC football, it's just that it doesn't get much coverage here on the east coast. We can catch games here and there, but for real coverage & commentary I have to rely on ESPN.com and FoxSports.com.

One of the mainstays of the Patriot's superlative O-line (Logan Mankins) is a Fresno State product.

I hope they get a decent BCS bowl; they've certainly earned it, and it will definitely be a must-see game.

It's official; Hawaii will face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Should be a great game.

    Mythical playoff :)

I'm an Ohio State fan, but I am not happy with this set-up. The BCS is horrible.

I want a playoff. 16 teams: All conference champs (11) + 5 at large bids. Use BCS standings for seeding. All games are played at the higher seeded home stadium until the championship. This is the same format that is used in D1-AA, D2, and D3. Without further ado, here are the seedings:

    1. Ohio State (Big 10)
    2. LSU (SEC)
    3. Virginia Tech (ACC)
    4. Oklahoma (Big 12)
    5. Georgia (At - large)
    6. Missouri (At - large)
    7. USC (PAC 10)
    8. Kansas (At - large)
    9. West Virginia (Big East)
    10. Hawaii (WAC)
    11. Arizona State (At - large)
    12. Florida (At - large)
    13. BYU (Mountain West)
    14. UCF (Conference USA)
    15. Troy (Sub Belt)
    16. Central Michigan (MAC)

I'd be pretty geeked to see these games in first round action:

    4 - 13 (Oklahoma/BYU)
    5 - 12 (Georgia/Florida)
    6 - 11 (Missouri/Arizona State)
    7 - 10 (USC/Hawaii)
    8 - 9 (Kansas/West Virginia)

    Thoughts?

My thoughts - OU/BYU would be a very ugly game for the Cougars.

Beyond that, I am all for a tournament but wonder how it would work from a financial aspect. The current bowl system generates a lot of money for the participating schools.

I think you could combine the bowl games with a playoff tournament; rotate which bowl would host the progressive playoff games with the national championship being the _______ Bowl National Championship Game.

Hopefully this abomination of a season will force some changes with the BCS system.

I'm trying really hard to get to the Armed Forces Bowl. I just need to convince my wife that we need to cut the Christmas visit to her parents short.

Hawaii versus USC would just be a repeat of the slaughter that took place in 2005.
