This is some really disturbing stuff. The University of Delaware requires students to undergo ideological reeducation:

The U of D has even come up with its own definition of racist:

"A Racist: A racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e. people of European descent) living in the United States regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality. By this definition, people of color cannot be racists, because as peoples within the U.S. system they do not have the power to back up their prejudices, hostilities or acts of discrimination."

Seems only fair to also link to the university's response:

After reading the actual documents that are inked to in the document that appears in the above link, I would describe this as only mildly disturbing. The FIRE organization appears to be lifting some of the more "disturbing" definitions and statements out of context and going out there way to sensationalize them.

The documents referred to appear to be used to train RAs (resident assistants). At most univesities, RAs are "first responders" to students undergoing a presonal crises, or for that matter, a mental breakdown. The "intrusive personal questions" referred to in the article are par for the course at most universities in peer counseling sessions, rather than an effort to indoctrinate the student body.

Considering that RAs deals with large numbers of students from highly diverse backgrounds, a new 20-year-old RA that grew up in say, central North Dakota, may need to be trained to interact with students from widely different backgrounds. In my opinion, the documents referred to in the above link are just slightly overboard when viewed in this context.

I get the sense that this FIRE organization's real issue is something different than what is stated.

I'm with FIRE on this one. That sort of program has no place in a public institution in a purportedly free society regardless of the university's assertion that it's voluntary.

In other words, the president of the university thinks we are fools to believe that it would be so easy to "re-educate" students, but he does not deny attempting to do so. I think this b@$t@rd needs to re-take freshman psych if he thinks it is not easy to "re-educate" people; if memory of my own freshman psych class serves me, experiments have shown that it is amazingly easy to "re-educate" people.

Sounds like the U of D is quoting from the Sue & Sue diversity textbook that was required reading for my counseling M.A.!
