This isn't exactly distance related, but... My nephew is a Marine serving in Iraq and his wife is interested in going to college (distance or otherwise) - but they say she isn't elligible for military-related aid. This doesn't seem right to me (but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the military) - I thought she would have been eligible for some of his benefits (perhaps wrongly). All assistance/feedback is appreciated! Greg
She doesn't qualify for any of his benefits like tuition assistance or the GI Bill. However, I do see a lot of small scholarships advertised on base that are distributed through base agencies that she can apply for. Additionally, if he is enlisted, you can expect her to qualify for the standard things like Pell Grants.
Thanks for the quick reply Airtorn! It's been a while so I forgot all about Pell grants (Doh!). Since he's enlisted - I would think they would have nothing to lose by applying for Pell grants (and any other base-related scholarships). I'll pass it along - and thanks again! Greg
A Pell grant isn't military related, it's part of what you apply for when you fill out a FAFSA, which any U.S. citizen or permanent resident can do. -=Steve=-
Information is available - I found these resources: http://www.militaryta.com/More/index.shtml http://www.military.com/spouse/ca/0,,ca_step2_edu,00.html http://www.usmc-mccs.org/education/sta.cfm Many colleges offer military/veteran's discounts and may offer spousal discounts also. Many states have special programs as well, so narrow down what you want to study, where you want to study, and which school you would like to attend......
