Florida International University President Modesto Maidique today announced during the funeral of Miami-Dade Police Officer Somohano, recently shot and killed by a gunman who also shot and injured 3 other officers, that Officer Somohano's children would be awarded full scholarships. After paying the ultimate price for his dedicated public service, it's good to know that at least his children will receive an education. FIU (President Maidique) you did an honorable deed that his family will never forget.
Has the FIU president granted this FIU student a bachelors degree? "A college student is asking a University for one last, dying wish, but the university says educational standards won't allow it. Kristina Panagos is a 23-year-old student with cancer who is fighting to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Florida International University. Panagos fought a childhood brain tumor through high school and, after a relapse last year, she had no choice but to withdraw from college." http://www1.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI57722/ My heart goes out to the officer's children who have lost a great father. We have lost a loyal member of society who served to protect us. May he be at peace in heaven.
That's an interesting site. They have an entry from my city from 1823: http://odmp.org/officer.php?oid=18956 -=Steve=-
