Anti-Bush/Ivy League

A university here in Ontario is making a big splash with a new recruitment campain that knocks George Bush:

I always thought that with the growth of private NA schools we'd see low brow but at a Canadian Public School?

 

It's not that funny, anyway, possibly because it's done in a very half-assed way.

 

There are ways you can lampoon politicians--particularly tongue-tied ones--that are witty and clever. But this does not meet those standards. Even semi-talents like the writers for Letterman and Leno can produce better material day after day, five days a week. Pretty lame.

 

Ok the campaign is well, lame..They are taking more of a shot at Yale for graduating a dumbass then they are at Bush for being one from what I can see. Yet to alot of people they see this as taboo(to talk about the president in such a manner) but they need to get over it. If that's the best Lakehead can do then perhaps they are not much above Bush on the dumbass scale.

 

Honestly, I think it would have been funnier had they offered quotes and famous gaffes to go along with the visual, and played up the "Who needs Yale?" angle farther.

I agree with Tim; politicians throughout history have always been lampooned, and if the current administration, supporters, or Yale can't take some ribbing then they need to develop a thicker skin. This is tamer/lamer (by far) than a lot of the shots being taken in current media circles.

My opinion only, since on this matter "I'm the Decider....."

Yeah, but, after Yale GW Bush went on to the presidency. Is Lakehead saying that's a bad thing (the accomplishment, not the person)? That the presidency is not a role to be aspired to?

Has any Lakehead alum served as Canada's Prime Minister?

In terms of career success, I don't think that a two term governor and two term President is anything to sneeze at.

Yes they are.

Presidencies are obtained due to votes, (or due to your father's Supreme Court Judges) not to academic achievements.

How come I was secure in the idea that Bush (Sr. & Jr.) were/are both Ivy League??? I would hate to have to retrain my memory.

In fact aren´t they memebers of the Skulls and Bones or Cripts or what ever the Hell they are called?

 

Yeah, they're saying that you wouldn't want to go to a school that graduates terminally stupid dorks (and holding up the president as a prime example).

 

Lakehead University has a fine reputation in Canada. In my opinion, it just got better.

My recollection was that G.W. Bush was a GPA was of the 2. something variety(or C level). Nothing to write home about, but when daddy has influence it is enough to get into HBS.

 

This advertisement surprises me from a reputable university. It makes me wonder if this is really a Lakehead University advertisement or a third party advertisement/joke.

When you click on the link for Lakehead University, the link takes you to the university web site and apparently takes credit for the referral.

Missing the point

My issue was the school pointing the finger at another school.

On this site, it seems to me that every 3rd post is knock against either non-RA or non-AACSB schools. What if NA schools in the US started pointing fingers at the RA?

As for Lakehead, I grew up in Toronto and the thought of going there was compared to "Nice school, but you'll free your b@ll$ off!" However they are not AACSB (oooh that'll start 30 more replys) and they are not a comprehensive school (mostly undergrad with a few masters) is it right for them to take this shot or is their campaign on target?

Is the yaleshmale site even owned by Lakehead or does some independent third party own it?

 

The domain is registered to their ad agency, but it's definitely 'a Lakehead site;' I've seen its Chancellor appear on TV defending it, and its student union president (I think the president, otherwise a representative) criticizing it.
