Where would I have been

Interesting how life takes you places. My current hotel job is low paying and not near what I wanted to end up doing (I am fixing on getting my degree to get a good job). However, What would have happened if I had stayed at my previous jobs:

My first job was a city utility job. Good job, good hours, decent pay, but I did not like the work. So I left for a high tech company that was training new hires. I have often lamented this decision as getting back into the city utility world is neigh on impossible once you have left. Ironically, the place I used to work just contracted out my old job. Many who worked there got let go, and those who did not lost government benefits for standard benefits and took a signifcant pay cut. The positive is they are now in a private company and can move up in ranks. Strange how life works.

The high tech company seemed promising though. And yet after two years of learning and working in the field they let me go. Of course the function I had learned termed "circuit provisioning" is mostly moving overseas. I would have liked to stay and continue my learning, but alas it did not work out. Ironically the company I worked for has just been bought out. The new company already has the same functions and most people will be losing their jobs. Strange how life works.

I just think its funny cause sometimes I wonder... what if I hadn't made the choices I have made... would they have been made for me.. only later in life? Would I have been one of the newest vicitims scrambling now to pay my bills with two kids instead of one. Or would my extra years experience netted me a different job in the same industries. Hard to say. hard to say.

Oh.. I also thougth it was interesting. I started in the utility job because of job security. I mean a great government job, government bennies, never worrying about being laid off. Ha..
