I have a problem with my computer. I had a file downloaded onto my computer after visiting a site, it states the following:

Warning! Spyware threat detected! System error #1752

Your computer has several fatal errors dut to spyware activity. You IP address is XXXXXXXX and via this address an unauthorized access was gained by another computer. It is strictly recommended to install an anti-virus software to close all security breaches.

    Your IP adress: XXXXXXX
    They know you're using: Browser

    You computer is: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Risk status for further investigation: VERY HIGH RISK

To protect your computer from spyware attacks - click here to erase the track of your internet activity - click here

Basically, I have tried everything to get rid of this message which is on my desktop now. I have right clicked to try and delete, nothing. I have rebooted and also nothing. Let me add, I did a manual virus scan and it deleted this virus. Also, msn spyware cleaned everything up as well.

This is obviously an attempt to have me click on it and buy their software. How do I get rid of it? Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Abner

One possible way is to perform a system restore if you are on XP. You can restore your computer to a earlier time prior to obtaining this virus or trojan.

You can also reboot computer in safe mode, then locate the file, probably in your system32 folder. Search for it and then remove it.

Good luck.. Those things totally suck!!

Oops, spoke to soon. The message appeared again. Tried another restore to a prior time, still came back.

How do I do a safe mode reboot?

    Thanks,

I think you press the F8 key during as Microsoft Windows boots.

Two good tools to use are Ad Aware and SpyBot. Both are free from Downloads.com

You may also want to try ClamWin, which is a free, open source, Anti virus application.

It does *not* do real time scanning, however, it is better than a kick in the rear. You have schedule scans.

Good for budget systems, or as a portable app to take with you on a usb key.

From your control panel, you will need to uninstall the sysware program that has installed itself. After you remove the program, do not restart your computer, it will tell you that you need to restart, but don't. After uninstalling, go to your toolbar and choose internet options, click on the security tab, then click on the red restricted sites and click custom. From the drop down menu, choose the sys installer link that has attached itself to your computer. Add that link to the restricted site. Click ok, apply, and okay again. Now you restart your computer and shouldn't have that problem with unwanted software installing itself from that website. This same thing applies to other websites that try to install their software on your system.

2nd - get a good, free antivirus with real-time scanning such as AVG, which you can get from here: http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_385a729.exe

    Spybot S&D from here:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

    There is also Spyware Blaster:

    Also look into a-squared:

    (malware remover)

    Hope this helps :)
