Well, In my quest to get with it techno wise, I have switched to DSL SBC yahoo, (pro package). Also, we purchased a laptop for my wife and figured out the connectivity issues, thanks to the help of many of you. Thank you. So any way, the phone lines sound crackly. To be honest, this problem was there before the DSL. However, it was not as pronouced. I guess I could live with it, but I am curious as to whether anybody has encountered this, I can't be the only one. In case it matters I do have a cordless phone (2.4GHZ) in the kitchen, quite a distance away from the desktop and laptop computers. I would appreciate any comments. If worse comes to worse, I will call somebody to come check it out. I just wonder if it is something simple. take care, Abner P.S. We did install the filters DSL sent with the installation package anywhere there is a phone jack, etc.
You're gonna need a filter to put on the jack that your phone is connected to. Both signals travel on the same line and what your picking up is the DSL signal. A couple of filters should have came with your DSL modem. If not, you may be able to pick one up at Radio Shack cheap. HTH, cbryant

I thought I had all my phone lines covered when I first installed filters. I still couldn't get my DSL to work (actually, the DSL worked but it was slower than dialup). I forgot that my sat dish had a phone line (thus, no filter installed). So, you may want to make sure you covered ALL the phone lines to make sure you didn't miss anything. Hope this helps, Bill
If you have line noise, it could be due to old wiring from the telco - have them come in and check it out. ..just for the heck of it, though, try unplugging all your phones and test the phones themselves by plugging only one in at a time and see if perhaps a telephone is the problem... I had line noise as I had a cheap cordless - I unplugged it and the line noise was gone.. invested in a 5.xGHz one and voila... problem solved
I think you may be on to something there. I disconnected one phone because I thought the wiring might be old, and I noticed some improvement. Let me ask a dumb question. What is Telco? The phone company? But I digress, I will try the phone thing first, and If I can't live with the noise, I will call SBC Yahoo and have them send somebody out. Thanks BlueMason Abner
..even if you can live with a little line noise, you're not getting full value out of your DSL line as it'll have an impact on the speed you're getting. Call the telco and have them send out a repair guy - you're paying for the service, might as well make good use of it.
I had DSL fail when I first installed it because a pair of telco wires went to my house alarm system. I disconnected them (we don't pay for the alarm, it's legacy equipment) and it worked OK. Then my son bought a fancy whiz-bang very high frequency cordless phone and that made DSL not work. Once I took it off the line, everything worked fine again. DSL is some touchy stuff.
