Has anyone here every used PERRLA APA software? It supposedly automatically formats a paper APA style for you.

I didn't use that software, but when I did my dissertation, I used the APA's software. It was simplistic, but it put the references in the correct order and format, and you could have it generate the shell of the paper so all you had to do was start typing.

I use it frequently. It does a good job of formatting the paper, inputting references through wizards, and insterting citations. Like anything else, it takes a little tweaking/oversight, but overall I've found that makes it much easier. PM me if you need anything.

    ProCite 5.0

Have you investigated ProCite 5.0? After having purchased the product almost two years ago, I have finally gotten around to tweaking the workforms for APA 5th edition output. Just a thought. Although I have to investigate the APA software you mentioned.

I broke down and bought it for $24 because they said that it's good for a lifetime and I can put it on my work computer as well as my home computer and all future upgrades are free. School starts on 2/1/06, so I'll be using it for the first time.

It formats the paper to include:
    1. your name
    2. your school's name
    3. your paper's topic
    4. headers & page numbers
    5. in-text citations
    6. end-of-paper references (puts them in order from a to z and properly formats them)
    7. space for an abstract (it's optional)

I'm aggravated that each professor seems to do things differently. Each claims that the way they want things done is the correct APA style. So I modify my paper's to suit one professor and then when I move on to the next class, I get criticized for not doing the paper the correct APA way when, in reality, I'm doing it the way the previous instructor wanted it. Whatever. I'll keeping rolling along.

I used APA Perrla for all of my papers at Bellevue University. It came included in a book on research and writing, and I found it quite useful. If I had to spend the ~$24 for it, I would do so.
