Re: Re: Happy Birthday Ted Heiks!!! Hey Ted, I would like to say I have a great memory, but the truth is it was displayed under todays birthdays. Abner P.S. Are you going to treat yourself to a fat juicy steak and some Sarsaspiralla?
Re: Re: Re: Happy Birthday Ted Heiks!!! Interesting! When I first saw the "Happy Birthday, Ted Heiks!" thread, my computer was still showing the January 20th birthdays. Another interesting thing: It appears that there is some 44-year-old dude here named Theodore L. Heiks, but he's never posted. Wonder how that happened. Well, last night, January 20th and into the wee hours of January 21st, I walked into town for karaoke at the Happy Hour. Being as January 24th will be the two-year anniversary of the divorce from the ex-wife who beat me up twice (and had me arrested both times) in three months of marriage, I sang Tammy Wynette's "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie," and Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," and, then, at midnight, DJ Dean sang "Happy Birthday" for me and, finally, I sang KISS' "I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night." And I went home about 1 AM and posted to Annie Angel and Force of the Truth over at www.politicalforum.com and went to bed at 3:30 AM. Annie is a recent convert to Christianity with obvious abuse issues and possible suicidal tendencies who thinks everybody hates her for becoming a Christian and Force thinks he is a loser because he is a 20-year-old male virgin who has never even been on a date. So, I had to check in and see how they were doing. Tonight, January 21st, my parents took me out for my smaller, "unofficial" birthday celebration at Anchor Inn, where I had shrimp dinner and sang karaoke. I sang Benny Mardones' "Into the Night" ("She's just sixteen years old, leave her alone, they said ..."), then they sang "Happy Birthday," then my remaining songs included "Sixteen Candles" (singer's name forgotten), Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen" KISS' "Beth," Wham!'s "Careless Whisper," and finally, as a duet with a nice young lady named Emily (too bad she was already married - she didn't think I looked 44!) Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock's "Picture." (Too bad there wasn't time for a duet of Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss[?]' "Whiskey Lullaby" ) Then, after my parents took me home, I dropped in at the Oak Harbor Hotel, where I re-sang "Sixteen Candles" (singer's name forgotten), Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen," and Wham!'s "Careless Whisper." Lest you wonder why I was singing all of those "sixteen" songs when I'm forty-four, let me explain. One of the local DJs says that he's got the technology to burn a CD of you singing karaoke now and, as it would just so happen, my younger brother has a daughter who will become sweet sixteen in about half a year so I thought I would take the time to practice up and give my niece a CD of the Tedmeister for her sweet sixteen birthday. Hopefully, next week, my sister-in-law will be recovered from her surgery so that the entire family will be able to attend the larger "official" birthday, where I get to open up my $100 worth of videos (15 used videos on historical topics): "Troy"; "Helen of Troy" (1956); "Helen of Troy" (more recent); "David and Bathsheba" (Gregory Peck); "King David" (Richard Gere); "Alexander the Great" (1956); "Alexander" (more recent); "King Arthur"; "Macbeth"; "Edward II"; "Richard III"; "Nine Days a Queen"; "Lady Jane"; "Catherine the Great" (Catherine Zeta-Jones); and "Edward on Edward." Maybe I can talk them into having the big birthday dinner in Toledo near the Barnes & Noble so I can try to guilt-trip one of my relatives into springing for a copy of Bear's Guide, 16th edition.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Happy Birthday Ted Heiks!!! Damn Ted, you know how to party!! Glad you had a good time broheim! Abner
Hey Ted, there is another guy on DI who has the same name as you as well as the same birthday. Maybe you know him.
Looking at the profile, it looks like I originally joined in June 2004 as Theodore L. Heiks but never posted under that identity. Then I joined in February 2005 as Ted Heiks to advise Sheryl of various DL PhD degrees in History and have continued hanging around for a year. I recall just lurking for about half a year reading old posts at the Oak Harbor library before actively participating. As for others of the name Theodore (or Ted) Heiks, "Heiks" is an extremely rare surname and "Ted" and "Theodore" are not all that common given names. The only other Theodore Heiks that I know of was my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, who was the last of my direct male ancestral lineage to have remained in Germany his entire life. I have an aunt and uncle only six years my senior and when my aunt became pregnant while I was in college (she got tested and found out it was to be a boy), I suggested the name Theodore Lamar Heiks after my cousin's two grandfathers, Theodore Grable and Ivan Lamar Heiks. The suggestion wasn't followed.
Well, like Gretchen Wilson says, "Yeah, I'm here for the party ... and I'm not leaving till they throw me out!"
So you do know him. I recall lurking on this forum sometime in 2001/2002 but I don't remember if I ever registered. So when I joined in 2004, I looked for any possible name I would have registered under in 2001/2002 but I could not locate any. For all I know, I may also have two registered accounts on DI.
I meet with the documentary folks this Wednesday January 25, 2006. We are meeting for 2 hours going over my research. It is going, that is about all I can tell. Remember that the documentary, Voices From the Project will come out May of 2007 on PBS.
