Yes. Eid mubarak, friends. But you know--it had to happen. Christians whinge about the commercialisation of Christmas. Now this. I heard on the Beeb last night that in Indonesia you can transact the sacrifice and gift of Eid al-Adha via ATM; a local Muslim authority said this wasn't exactly un-Islamic but kind of ruined the spirit of the thing. I couldn't agree more. In any case, best wishes to our Muslim posters.
It's the same here, Unk . . . I went out today for a brief run to the supermarket, which I knew would be open, and was amazed that every shop was open, even the mall! About the only things closed were the banks and the government offices (which have been closed all week anyway out of respect for the passing of the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mahktoum). Eid Al Fitr was the same. Indeed, there have been articles in our local papers lamenting the commercialization of the Eids, and Ramadhan. It's sad to see this same pattern happening all over the world. Cheers, Adrienne
