I heard from a fellow colleague about General Motors having a list of people that they pay for not working ..... They are "on-call" ....But they get paid an annual salary..... In case the company runs out of workers; they call these people that are listed in their "Job Bank"....as a backup .... But these people are getting paid just to be used as spare parts in case of an emergency need of employees for the future...
Hmm, that takes "just in time' to a new level. If this is true, no wonder they are having financial problems (based on the level of 'spares' they are keeping in inventory).
