that's a good way to get your point accross...

    What a bunch of psychos

I don't agree with the whole "make christmas dissapear" movement either, but that's taking it way too far...

Very clever satire indeed. I particuclarly liked the one where the person was seeking therapy for the "damage" that insued from being forced to read the Bible.

Perhaps he will write a follow-up article about a group of guerrilla secularists who interrupt live nativity scenes, replacing the sheep with reindeer and the manger with a sleigh :)

    Hilarious stuff...thanks for posting it.

Years and YEARS ago, NPR broadcast an April Fools piece about Secular Humanists celebrating Darwin Day...

    (Ding dong) "Happy Darwin Day!"

"Oh, you're all so CUTE in your little monkey costumes!"

    holding a funeral...

"Some people think that you've gone on to a better place, but you are probably just dead and in a little while we're going to get some breakfast..."

I don't remember all of it but it was pretty good stuff!

    Funny stuff!

For Christian satire on schlock Christianity and some unsparing comment on liturgical follies (Mystery Worshipper dept.), see this:

What "war on Christmas" is this supposed to be? I've heard of Iraq, but I seem to have missed this newest war. (Maybe it's a local Alabama thing.)

I have no objection to Target stores. Nor do I have any objection to Christmas being a solemn and/or joyous religious holiday for any Christians who want to celebrate it that way.

If the fundies are complaining that Christmas has become too commercialized, I'll happpily agree with them.

But keep in mind that if the commercial aspect went away, then so would most of the Christmas displays, decorations and special-occasion excitement.

The simple fact of the matter is that Target stores aren't churches. To confuse churches and retail outlets is to be unclear on the concept. The fact that the stores in the mall aren't evangelizing their customers with Biblical teachings isn't some evil atheist war on your faith.

And finally, responding to the imagined affront with terrorist guns, intimidation and violence is absolutely the wrong way to bring secular people to a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if that indeed is your imaginary fundie warriors' purpose.

Since there are many, many companies that do the lion's share of their business during these Winter holidays, I think that the commercialization of Christmas also helps to keep a huge number of people employed.

    Lutheran joke (no, really)

Didja hear about the Lutherans who went to protest Christmas hucksterism at the local Hell Mart?

Yup, you betcha, we showed 'em. Pulled into the parking lot. Parked at the far end. Rolled up the windows. Pointed at the store. And groused to each other about what was going on.

After an hour of this geezopete it was getting cold we went in, bought some beer 'n' brats and went home to watch the game.

Uff da! Christmas wasn't like that in the old days.*

Well, personally, I'd like to wish a Merry Christmas to all the Jews, Happy Chanukkah to the Muslims, and Kwanza blessings to all of our white readers. And naturally, warm wishes for Happy Holidays to all of the Fundamentalists, evangelicals, Charismatics, and Christian right-wingers. :D
