While waiting for the SO to wake up I was reading about Madonna and Kabbalah. Not having a clue what Kabbalah is about I went to www.kabbalah.com While going through the section at www.kabbalah.com/sk101/ ( about 17 screens into the section) I came upon a screen that said: Six cards are listed When I hit go only five cards were displayed with the one I picked in my mind missing! I tried it six times and all six were correct. The screen with the missing card says: Since I am a sceptical person I am having a hard time believing some mystic is doing this. How are they able to do this? Is anyone else having the same results??
Carlosb: I almost hate to spoil the mysticism. Indeed, my first impression was "wow" too. However, after my third try I could see that the entire set of six cards, from which you are asked to select a single card, is completely absent from the subsequent group of five cards that are displayed. Unfortunately, the sly ancient Mystics of the Kabbalah have removed all of the original cards from the hand. Of course, the card one selects and focuses in his/her mind is clearly not present in the subsequent list; by focusing on just one card, one misses the less apparent absence of all other cards. Perhaps this says something about humans in general. We tend to focus so much on one dimension, point of view, perspective, idea, or position that we simply fail to see other viable and more obvious alternatives; hence, a source and root cause of misunderstanding, conflict and miscalculation. Interesting. Tom
Re: Re: Kabbalah.com mystery You are so right! I thought I made a mental note to memorize a couple of other cards to validate them not changing to different cards. Guess the coffee did not kick in yet. Thanks
An entertaining trick. REAL Kaballah scholars won't accept a student until he is forty years old, married, leading a reasonably kosher life, and thoroughly versed in the requirements of Jewish law. Madonna, who is neither a Jew nor has any desire to convert, or so she says, is pathetically ill equipped even to begin. Of course, I think Kaballah ITSELF is a waste of time but what do I know?
But, nevertheless, in chapter 1 of just about any card trick book ever published. As well it should be! So, then, whenever we see anyone with the red string around their wrist, we should be reminded from the example cited in this thread, how easily sucked-in they are. Lots, Mr. Humility. You're dead on on this one, too... not surprisingly.
