Let's say you drive 40 miles per day and get 20 MPG. That's 2 gallons per day. If gas has doubled from a buck-and-a-half to three bucks, that means you're paying an extra $3 per day. That's $21 per week, or a little more than $80 per month. (Obviously, each person's situation is different, but this is just illustrative.)

If an extra 80 bucks or so a month causes you to be late on your credit card payments, you shouldn't have a credit card. This isn't to denigrate lower income folks, nor is it dismissive of the problem of high fuel prices. But if 80 bucks a month causes you to wreck your credit, you were on the precipice anyway.

It sounds like a constructed story, not one that exists.

    Rich:
Which gets to the heart of the matter. Well put Rich.

Now if it was titled "Gas Price Causes Late TV Cable Payments" I could understand.
