    (Oregon Theological Seminary)

A few of you know that I learned from information provided by members of this discussion board of the possibility of doing a doctoral degree in Theology by distance learning. I began doctoral studies when I was 61 or 62 and had gone from full time to part time teaching in public schools. My goal was to finish the ThD before my 65th birthday. I did.

Some of you also know that from time to time I received encouragement in my studies from , again, members of this Board. I did graduate in May , as some of you know, and received a "well done" from some of you folks here. My 65th was in June. I am grateful to my friends at DI, and I wanted to let you know how I am now using my new degree.

While the online catalogue of Oregon Theological Seminary may not yet reflect these facts, this school is now Faith Seminary of Salem Oregon.

Faith is basically in Tacoma Washington and is TRACS acccredited and so now is Faith of Salem TRACS accredited . Faith of Salem has as its president H. Wayne House.

Faith of Salem offers distance learning degrees . If one looks at the faculty of Faith Seminary, Salem I believe he will both see individuals who are competent to teach and see a curriculum which is rigorous and substantial.

I am listed there too ;look for the picture of the handsome one! I now am an assistant professor of Theological Studies at Faith Seminary of Salem, and I am the Director of Distance learning as well.

I wanted my friends at DI to know that their guidance and their encouragement has borne the fruit of this old man finding at 65 a new career.

    Thanks again,

    Wow!

    Bill,

To hear of your completing a well-earned ThD at UniZul was exciting, but to see it come to fruition in a position in which you can be an influence and a resource is simply brilliant. May God bless your work in this opportunity with which God has crowned your efforts.

The tuition is reasonable, at least if the current online catalog refelcts current tuition. If accurate it is cheaper than Faith of Tacoma.

The catalog says they will pursue accreditation. So, I guess from what you are saying is that they are now TRACS accredited although the TRACS web site doesn't reflect this.

There is a Faith in Salem and a Faith in Tacoma, right? Or is there one Faith with a branch in Salem? I'm confused but what's new?

BTW, the link on the right side of their site for the catalog isn't working but the drop down link for the catalog is.

Again, the very best to you, Bill!

    Congratulations, Dr. G.

You certainly know your Biblical stuff, so it's great to see you getting an opportunity to share it with students.

But from reading your previous remarks about academic standards in theology, I bet that there's gonna be no students slackin' off in Grover's class! Scary. :D

    Congratulations.

Congratulations, Bill! Your pals are all very proud of you. I know you'll do well with this opportunity.

If they leave you at loose ends over summer break, don't forget about your summer school teaching opportunities down South!

The OTS catalogue is not up to date. I understand the new tuition rate is $200 per quarter hour. Dr. House, with whom I've spent over 20 hrs in the last few weeks , has explained to me that OTS is now officially a part of Faith of Tacoma. The TRACS website states that Faith is accredited, and Dr. House is saying that OTS is part of Faith. There is one Faith which is in Tacoma and is also in Salem. The OTS catalogue needs to be revised to relect these changes. In the mean time, some OTS grads already have received degrees from Faith for completing the OTS courses of study.

So, you have: Faith-Salem and Faith-Tacoma?

Is this like Bethel-St. Paul and Bethel-San Diego? Or is OTS still OTS, but really it's a part of Faith, like a subsidiary, such as the Kennedy School at Harvard University?

Will the nomenclature "Oregon Theological Seminary" no longer exist forever more, or will it continue to exist as a part of Faith Seminary?

Why this is of importance to me, I haven't a clue. I was just curious.

Yes, I agree. Handsome and distinguished looking. Nice to finally put a face with the name... and the words so eloquently-posted here, so often.

Bill, honestly, I can sense the humility and awe in your post... and the happiness. You are clearly moved... and, reading your words, so was I... yet again, I should probably add. I'm so happy for you, I cannot adequately articulate it here. My deepest, warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to you in this new and exciting endeavor. And thank you for being such an inspiration to those of us who sometimes wonder why we're contemplating new lives and careers even at our ages. May your tenure at this and/or whatever other institutions of higher learning at which you choose to work be long, healthy, happy and prosperous. I know that you will not only impress, but more importantly, will inspire, as many students there as you have readers here.

God bless, Bill. I'm really excited for you. Really!! This is a good day. A very good day.

    :)

By the way, I looked at the credentials of all of the profs--outstanding! (including you, of course, you probably have more letters behind your name than all of them)

I should know more about you, but I don't. Is the sem liberal, conservative, or somewhere on the spectrum in between? I would guess, judging by the number of DTS degrees I see (28% of profs with PhDs from there), that it tends towards conservative.

    Just curious.
