Regarding people that have posted here and in that forum, do you think that the posters are brought down a few notches by the poor company or do they just feel more unhibited to display their poor character in the other forums?

Quite frankly I am a little disturbed by some of the comments on the other forum.

I consider a few of them "friends" (as much as one can become a friend via the Internet) and am surprised at the rhetoric.

One is working on a degree in theology (or religion) and calls some folks horrible names.

    Disturbing, quite disturbing.

What IS the plural of "forum"? Fora?

Are you implying, Jimmy, that some in the field of theology/religion use profane language?

I see I'm naive. I wasn't even aware of the existence of this other forum.

Good point. I mean... it was a point, right? If so, it's not lost on me. We should just ignore these other places. Until someone from here (whom I won't mention and whom I know is just trying to help) started monitoring the other fora and PMing or emailing me every time I was mentioned therein, I had gone literally months and months without viewing any of them. And while I did view them not long ago, and made some comments herein, I now really think that was stupid of me; and I've not viewed any of them since. It's been weeks... and hopefully I won't view any of them for many, many months more. They're not worth the screen pixels it takes to display them. And either viewing them or, worse, talking about them here just gives them credit they don't deserve, and makes us look petty. And I'm just as guilty as anyone of falling into that trap. What I have posted here that was in any way responsive to anything written in those places was dumb of me.

I've posted several times around here that we shouldn't give them the time-o-day; shouldn't mention them, respond to them, view them, or refer anyone to them. If we do mention them, it should only be to warn others away.

Or so it is my opinion.

And this isn't about competition, by the way. It's about not letting the reader become misled. Those other places are populated by diploma/degree mill operators; or by those who have purchased degrees from them and, therefore, have alot to lose by anyone showing their "degree" to be in any way bogus; or by those who are inexplicably sympathetic. Most of those who populate those fora have, for the most part, been thrown outta' here. A newbie who goes to those places and allows himself to become misled will probably begin making all the nutty arguments that those knuckleheads routinely make, instead of coming here and allowing himself/herself to get the straight skinny on distance learning programs that are accredited (or, if not, really are credible despite their lack of accreditation), and on diploma/degree mills and how to avoid them.

The choice, it seems to me, is clear... but that's just me.

Oh, I dunno. I wear being hated in places like that as a badge of honor. Of course you put a smiley next to "Poor Bruce," so I presume it was sarcastic. I just wanted to make the "badge of honor" point.

Well, not really, but at the same time I totally agree with that which you took away from it. :)

They seem to have gone over the edge when John stopped contributing. One week he was considered a reasoned contributor and the next he was the most despicable character on earth. Oh well, they are always good for a laugh!

It's a smiley badge of honour. Bruce is a chün-tzu. He deserves to enjoy sacrificial pickles, wine, roast red ox, & flute-maidens, but the smiley was the best I could do.

    Point taken.

I just wanted to see if the poster in question had the cojones to say here what he says elsewhere about here.

    The answer is no.

Flute maidens? Flute maidens? Where? Where?

How about some violin maidens, cello maidens are nice too but it probably makes it more difficult for simultaneous prancing and music playing.

I must agree with you Bill, prancing, music playing and all around frolicking about can cause certain hazards. One such challenge is drinking wine, while simultaneously engaging in such activities. Wine may be spilled!

Oh, well. I will leave these perils to those wiser than I.

I think a lot of it is the anonymity of the internet, but keep in mind that a person like that has an agenda.
