I'm hoping this is okay to post but I thought some non-political good news about Katrina might be welcome.

SACs has been sending out messages all week listing colleges that are taking in student refugees from Katrina. The whole state university system in TN will take students without charging tuition. Many other smaller schools are waving tuition as well. Other schools, such as the University of MS is finding students places to live with some of their professors that might have a spare room.

We are packed to the rafters here at the University of Tampa this semester but we managed to squeeze in 10 from Tulane.

After all of the horrible news, reports of the truly terrible situation those from the area are facing (especially in New Orleans), your news is simply AWESOME to hear. I think it's something a lot of people would benefit from knowing, if nothing else than as an aid against cynicism.

    Thanks,

    Matt

More good news from Charity Hospital... some stories were reporting mass starvation, death and gunfights inside the hospital. I was just watching an interview with a hospital administrator on the telephone, and according to her, food and water is short but being rationed in an orderly way, gunshots were heard a few days ago but didn't result in any injuries, "no one died that wouldn't have died anyway" (that was the only part that didn't sound as reassuring as she probably meant it to be), patients are being slowly but steadily evacuated to other hospitals and almost no one is left who needs critical care.

    Worried parents

I am also getting tons of emails going:

"If my son / daughter comes to Tampa, what are the evacuation plans in case of the hurricane?"

I've been here 3 years and never been asked that before.
