Jimmy, I notice you have now completed your second certificate program in locksmithing. Are these studies designed to aid in unlocking the mysteries of theology? Or, are you preparing to break into the St. Regis University administrative offices..........
Hi Russell, Actually the mysteries of theology will never be solved, as you know. But, my real goal is to unlock the Gates of Hell!
Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? So you can get in... or out? Just kidding. A set-up like that, I just can't resist.
Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? Jimmy: Can you post the full quote on the gates of hell shall not prevail against it? What is the significance of that verse? I remember some 20 years ago a Pastor Rick in Gunnison, CO, preached a sermon in which he asked why Christians have such a remember-the-Alamo mentality when gates do not attack and gates do not charge. That being the case, what is the point about the gates of hell not prevailing? Are we supposed to be charging the gates of hell because: (a) we think the accomodations there would be a nice place to spend all eternity; (b) we're trying to descend into hell for three days in order to release more captives; or (c) other (please specify)?
Re: Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? To let you out! You set yourself up on this one, my friend. Have a nice weekend.
Jimmy: This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you practice the hands on part of locksmithing? It seems like something you would almost have to learn person to person, like being a mechanic. Just curious, Abner
Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? As Ms. Brumby so emphatically told me in my undergrad geography class, "No question is a dumb question." The hands-on part of correspondence locksmithing courses consists of labs with materials and step-by-step instructions. Fortunately for me, my father was a locksmith and I remembered quite a bit from my working with him.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? When you're right, you're right. I walked right into that one.
Re: Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? Hi Ted, The Matthew 16:18 quote from the KJV is And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Hades is more accurate here, not Hell. Hades (Sheol in the OT) is the location of the dead. Gates were necessary for the security of a city and usually represented might. Therefore, gates of hell symbolize power and death. Jesus is saying here that death will not be victorious over the church.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Locksmith Certificates Help "Unlock" the Mysteries of Theology? Ah! Here I was visualizing these all these Christian soldiers rushing onward, waving their swords like the barbarians in the Capital One commercial, towards the gates of hell. I couldn't really imagine hell being such a nice place to want to break into and I figured Yshua already broke the captives free and took them out of it in his three days down there. Thanks for explaining things.
Jimmy: "That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it...." John: Aw, let's stop picking on Microsoft.
Good one, Dr. Bear! Speaking of the devil, ............ plus this one, too, but ......... the joke is on ummm, him .... LOL.
