  2. I have a nephew (who is VERY alternative) who is doing this with his live-in girlfriend - travelling from coast to coast in an old beat-up Chevy Diesel truck that he has converted to run on grease. His premise is that he'll fill up at McDonalds across the country. Not sure what sort of reception he'd get in the middle of Oklahoma pulling up to a McDonalds with his tattoos, piercings, and long hair asking to pump their waste grease into a huge tank on his truck.

I guess he's rigged up some big, really big, tank on the back of the truck, and it smells like McDonalds cooking all the way down the highway. He actually made it from Vermont to Santa Fe, NM though - so maybe he knows more than me (and his father, my brother) do.... I can tell you this much. I never laughed so hard when my brother related this latest episode to me - the scenarios of this kid trying to beg grease off rural America in his journey west is too much....!

I think I may have seen a show about this guy on the Huel Howser show. Very interesting!

Come now Carl, give your nephew a chance! At least he thinks outside the box. Over twenty years ago I was involved in the hardcore punk rock movement. When I was 16, I had a huge redneck taunt me at a liqour store. He kept blocking my way, and he kept calling me one of "them punk rock Faggots". I will add this gut outweighed me by about a hundred pounds. When I had no other choice, I dropped this guy. I wiped off his red neck smirk, much to my delight!

I have done pretty well for myself. I have had to work very hard to get where I am at, but I rather proud of what I have accomplished in life. Give my regards to your nephew!

    Take care my friend!

SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil). You have to strain it and it gels in cold weather.

In the UK you are considered a tax-beater if you do that.

I have heard of people back east using home heating oil in their diesel cars to save money.

I think that's awesome. Maybe McD's can start a side business in filtered veg. oil. If a way was found to make "greasecars" feasible on a mass level, that would be even more awesome. Anything to reduce our dependance on foreign oil.

As for your nephew's appearance, I can relate: I took a 72-hour bus ride across the US in the mid-1980's fromm NYC to Salem, OR, and discovered that in certain parts of the country, people with long bushy hair and a fu-manchu mustache were a little less than appreciated; the quote I remember best (in Utah, I believe), was "There goes another greaseball!"

The big companies will probably need some lawsuit immunity from the Feds to get on board. Chinese restaurants, or others using good amounts of cooking oil, are likely a better bet.

Here too, Decimon. If you´re caught using untaxed fuel you have to pay a heavy fine. They put a report on tv a few days ago, and that´s how I know. Here they were talking about vegetable oil. It´s cheaper, it´s cleaner, it doesn´damage your Diesel engine, but governments won´t allow you to use it.

We're the government and we're here to help you.

They won't allow it until they can tax it.

Perhaps a 'Dear Brussels' petition imploring the powers that be to tax waste vegetable oil fuel will do the trick. Be sure to include suggestion of the opportunites for graft, embezzlement and patronage. ;)

Saw that show too. Guy went around to local eateries gathering the grease. Interesting!

Sorry, I hit the post button by mistake. Anway, yeah, that was a cool show. They have a lot of good ideas on little day trips or weekend trips for Southern California. I also like Huel's Southern accent.

Take care yall or would it be y'all?

What an interesting article, obviously there are great discrepancies between these judicial systems… this makes me realize how relative everything is and that justice is an utopia.
