Good people keep making the mistake of judging -- or, simply interpreting -- diploma mills and anything they say or do by the same standards that honest and honorable people use. Honest and honorable people do this insensibly. We project onto the crooks our sensibilities and value systems when it comes to predicting what they'll do, or what what they say means. We know they're bad, but somehow we just assume they'll play by our rules because that's our paradigm. We have trouble even wrapping our minds around what we observe of their behavior, much less what could possibly be motivating it. We honor and respect a certain way of dealing with others that is exactly the opposite of how they deal... and that's exactly what they're counting on. Though it has long been attributed to P.T. Barnum but was probably actually uttered by Joseph Bessimer, the reason at least one of them said "there's a sucker born every minute" is not because the utterer thought everyone was just stupid. Rather, it was because he knew that everyone who's good would project onto the con man their own sensibilities and use that to predict what said con man would, upon being paid, do or deliver; and the con men know that.

All one has to do to witness the pathological, anti-social behavior of diploma mill operators; to see, through their writings, the repugnance of that which slithers behind the attractive facade of a deploma mill's advertising and/or web site, is visit AED or several of the other particularly outrageous fora.

So when we sit around and wonder if suchandsuch mill site is engaging in false advertising, we're doing that projecting thing again. False advertising is the least of the things one need worry about when dealing with these lowlifes. The buyer is lucky to even get anything back through the mail (or FEDEX or UPS or DHL) for his money, for godsake. There are no rules with these people. There is no social contract. Or uniform commercial code. All bets are off. THEY'RE CRIMINALS, FOR GODSAKE! GET IT?

Sorry to be so emphatic. I needed to shift everyone's paradigm for a moment.
