Start of an article yesterday in the South Florida Sentinel. Sorry I don't have the link.

Pompano fire lieutenant in trouble after claiming dubious degree in job application
    --------------------
    August 1
A Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue training commander is under investigation after claiming a dubious degree to get a promotion.

The fire department is investigating Lt. Robert McCarthy, who claimed a degree from "Suffield University," an online company that gives out diplomas for "life experience" and lacks federally approved accreditation. It is also a company that has been deemed a "diploma mill" by several states, including its home state of Connecticut. McCarthy was applying for a job as battalion chief.

McCarthy "is the person who validates diplomas," said Fire Chief Harry Small. "We've got a problem."

  2. Having lived in South Florida for a while (very near Pompano Beach) it does not greatly surprise me that there are people in various governmental positions taking advantage of perceived "loopholes in legality" wherever possible. In fact, there seems to be a high level of unawareness of dubious degrees in that region. And, as we all know, Sheila Danzig is based out of the area too - the Queen (along with Dixie Randock) of spurious diploma mill operations.

170 DUI cases tossed in Palm Beach County; breath-test results invalid

Maybe if they would pay attention to the dubious degrees things like this would not happen:

Okay, here's mine: After the 2000 election debacle, it's difficult to take pretty much anything said or done in Florida terribly seriously. I mean, a joke is a joke.

Yes, Dr. Bear, a problem, it is.

Under President Bush43, not-too-long ago, it was discovered and widely publicized, that his Defense Department HR Chief (Deputy Defense Secretary, what's-his-name?), is himself, a possessor of a dubious degree from a dubious and unaccredited entity, closed by competent order of a court of law!

Bush43's Defense HR person, the one who validates (or is supposed to validate) diplomas for our military entrants - the all-too-glorious military gatekeeper and integrity checker - is himself arguably dubious.

He is still on the job (I think).

"Yes, Houston (Texas ........ and, ummm Florida .....), we've got a problem."

    Charles Abell.

He still claims his fake master's degree here: Abell's Bio

Columbus University is very much alive here: Columbus U's Home Page

John Bear, Allen Ezell, and I were the ones interviewed on Good Morning America regarding Abell. It is another example of the arrogance of this Administration--the one that brought you sky-high energy prices, a stupid and irrelevant war in Iraq, record budget deficits, support for "creation science," the traitor Karl Rove, John Bolton, and many other examples of its disdain for Americans.

Of course, it is those Americans who ignore such things, including Abell. Why should Bush care about Abell when no one will hold him accountable for Abell anyway?
