Anybody have a good link for a ranking of the best performing arts universities out there? (Theatre, acting, etc.). Thanks,

Another funny thing about Exeter being ranked seventh in the UK is that I ended up choosing George Washington's seemingly analogous program because its graduate school was ranked 24th in the U.S. for education by U.S. News and World Report. Would seventh in the UK have been "better"? I live and work in the U.S. these days and will probably do so at least some of the time for the forseeable future, so probably not, at least for me. If I were more interested in Europe, I might have swung the other way.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for but it might take you a step closer.

frankly, I'd take the Guardian's list with a very large pinch of salt. It gets more and more eccentric with each passing year.

The other point to note, viz Han's original question is that pretty much none of the top-rated institutions in the performing arts in the UK are in either list because they're not universities.

I think that much the same thing is true here in the US.

That's why Han probably needs to find a specialist listing of theater arts training programs. I mean what typical university ranking would catch this:

Besides, can theater arts and acting really be taught by DL?

I had assumed that she posted her question in off-topics because she wasn't looking for a DL listing. In any case, your point is a good one. Many of the best "programs" may not be in universities at all. (although I had heard that the program at Yale was well regarded.)

The USN&WR has a category for Fine and Performing Arts colleges but they do not rank them. With the data provided, however, you can easily derive your own rankings. You can either buy the book or pay for premium content on the USN&Wr site. Julliard is w/o a doubt probably the premier school. I think you almost have to be invited to apply....

Hmmm. Acting, almost certainly not, but there is always the Rose Bruford College BA and MA in Theatre Studies by DL.

For a list of the drama schools in the UK, try http://www.ncdt.co.uk/acourse.asp
