My visit to San Francisco International University

I stopped by 1375 Sutter St., Suite 300, San Francisco this morning. Quite an unexpected result. The office is that of AGI Capital Group Inc. (www.agicapital.com) where the young man at the desk, Jesse Herzog, expressed real annoyance when I asked about SFIU. "What is it with those people," he said. "They are using our address; we don't know anything about them." He said they return mail to sender. He had on his desk an envelope addressed to SFIU which appeared to be a transcript from some other school.

He said he had called SFIU to tell them to stop. Indeed he phoned them again when I was standing there. The number he dialed was 415 691 4347. He told them again to stop, then asked if I wanted to talk. I spoke to a woman, who said she could not tell me where the university was located; she was just an answering service. I asked her where she was located. Long pause. "Surely you know where you are sitting right now," I said pleasantly. She hung up. (The exchange is in Belvedere, California, a very fancy town in Marin County just north of SF.)

Recall that this institution claims to have awarded 54,000 degrees in 2004; claims to have 65 administrators and 60 student support staff. They are not approved by the state of California, so they cannot be operating legally. The website seems to date only from a couple of month ago, but I have no clues as to who has registered it, or who the phone belongs to.

That's it for my detective work for a while; off to the Sierras for a dance camp in a beautiful place with no electricity, telephones, or email.

There's something to be said for that face-to-face detective work.
    Nice sleuthing.

Oh damn! I was thinking about applying to SFIU and Oakland University as well (it would be cool to catch a Warriors game along with class. :D

Curses. Foiled again. I want to have a great degree with a great sounding name. International in the name would give it real punch. Dang it.
