Summer Puzzler. Perhaps an intriguing one.

There is a regionally-accredited degree-granting institution whose one and only campus is entirely within the borders of one of the 50 U.S. states.

All U.S. mail to this school must be addressed and sent to a state other than the state in which the school is located.

What is the school, and why is this the case?

An autographed copy of either my "Degree Mills" book or my "How to Repair Food" book for the first correct answer posted here. Must answer both parts of the question. Decision of the judge is final.

This is a very intriguing one, to me. (So the moderator can perhaps drop the "Perhaps" in the title. :))

at least claimed regional accreditation and was in a state different than louisiana to avoid traceability :)

I looked for colleges on military bases in Alaska and Hawaii that would have APO/FPO addresses, but didn't find any. Then I looked for Native American Colleges that would be located on a reservation in one state, but would receive their mail across a state line. No dice. Grrrrrrr.......

For years we lived anyhow with one another in the naked desert, under the indifferent heaven. By day, the hot sun fermented us; and we were dizzied by the beating wind. At night we were stained by dew, and shamed into pettiness by the innumerable silences of stars. We were a self-centered army without parade or gesture, devoted to freedom, the second of man's creeds, a purpose so ravenous that it devoured all our strength, a hope so transcendent that our earlier ambitions faded in its glare.

    Dr. Bear:

One question. You say it "must" be addressed to a different state. Does this mean it wouldn't be delivered if addressed to the campus address or the school requests that it be sent to the other state?

I think I know half of the answer, so will post the part I know here....... When a tribal school gets RA accreditation they have to register the school where the actual tribe resides not the school (for tax and other regulatory issues), and in some cases this will make the accreditation in a different state than the school, though there is not school to the address where the mail is sent.

Can't find the school though!! Maybe I get partial credit?? (If I am right :) )

Yea, by about six minutes Dr. Douglas beat me to a post about Native American schools so I deleted my post.

I had in mind a school like Northland Pioneer College in AZ but his post cancelled that thought (and post).

Are there any stand-alone schools in Texarkana? Is the Texarkana post office in TX or AR? And is the school in TX or AR?

    Hints.

    1. It is not a religious school, and it has no tribal or Native American connection.

    2. There is no connection with the military or any military base.

    3. There is no way to send mail to the address where the actual campus (and it is a real campus, not an office) is located.

And, just to make it more intriguing:

    4. You can send a FedEx or UPS package to the address where the campus is located (and it will be delivered).

    Re: Hints.

Isn't there some newfangled college in the middle of the desert somewhere?

But the address is not the school.

    Hmm...

Anybody know of a funky high school that would fit this description? Some are regionally accredited, and Dr. Bear didn't specify this was a tertiary institution.

    Very, very puzzled...

    Dr. Bear-

The answer is Deep Springs College in California.

    http://www.deepsprings.edu/

Fed Ex packages can be delivered to California...

    Federal Express
    Deep Springs College
    Deep Springs Ranch Rd.
    Hwy. 168
    Big Pine, CA 93513

but mail is delivered in Nevada...

    Mail/UPS
    Deep Springs College
    HC 72 Box 45001
    Deep Springs, CA
    via Dyer, NV 89010-9803

An interesting school, especially for a young man who's looking for a direction.

    Respectfully, Ryan IV
