I got the spam Email today from this place. It is clearly phony, but doesn't look like others I have seen. The name is Sovereignty at first, but on other pages of the URL it is Sovereigns. And the accreditor is some Swiss phony at the start, but in the FAQs it becomes the very real North Central Association. Phone in Arlington, Virginia; fax in Seattle, Washington. www.sovereigntyu.org Is it connected with other phonies? Who is behind it? Any information that sleuths here might discover will be welcome.
I'm not very good at this sort of thing but for a lark I plugged those telephone numbers (inside quotation marks) into google. The telephone number came up with nothing at all. The fax number, however, came up with: The Arab Foundation #33 Riverale Avenue Carson City, Nevada 04/14/04 This was then followed by a letter describing all the good things done by the Arab Foundation. The letter is signed by Dr. Rahman Ali Happy hunting. Jack
Compare the program page with that of the "University of Switzerland", and the application pages ( here and here ), not to mention near identical content on several other pages. The graduate course info page has a header that says "Scarsdale University" and many of the course descriptions are copied from a Wright State University site. Scarsdale doesn't reveal much, but it does have a sponsored link to e-degrees and a website here, claiming to be in England. It also has very similar content and layout.
I also found a Shaftesburyu.org.uk site when searching for the phrase "When an applicant’s education is difficult to define using such formal criteria" but it appears to be down at the moment (bandwidth limit exceeded). Cached versions are available though. The application page comes from Atlantic International University. Golly, this certainly is fun.
Here's the Google cache of the thing Jack found. It looks like one of those Nigerian-style scams, involving what purported to be Iraq charity money. http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:KCZvvEzswgcJ:www.419sport.tk/content/view_email.php%3Fscam_uid%3D5579+206-350-6485&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 There doesn't seem to be any record of an Arab Foundation or a Rahman Ali in Carson City.
If you go to switchboard.com and then the "advanced search" page and then plug in the street address, you'll get this: CPA Mortgage Experience Works Organization GNC Industial Research Larry Cookies Stephen M Roylance, Patent Agent Teleflexys Wachovia and about 30 other businesses, none of which are universities or the Arab Foundation. I don't know about you all but I'm shocked, shocked, to find that there's millishness going on here! Jack
