'On Tuesday, he changed his Web site, dropping the description of himself as a psychologist. He later acknowledged he had not graduated from Southern Illinois but said he had a doctorate from an unaccredited online university. He did not provide immediate documentation.'

And to think the Ricki Lake show did not vet his background..tsk tsk!!!

    I just love this page - http://www.onelovepoet.com/pictures.html

One picture has him standing with two girls, wearing a T-shirt with "Trust me, i'm a Doctor" emblazoned on the front.

    Yeah.

    Cheers,

What is it with phony psychologists and the term "Love Doctor"?

His website refers to him as "Dr." throughout, even though he isn't one.

He appears to be a relentless self-promoter, as well as a liar. It just goes to demonstrate yet again the willingness of people to go along with these charlatans, not checking a damn thing. I'm glad he got busted.

He is apparently slightly wiser than some academic frauds. After being exposed, he apparently stopped claiming a Ph.D. at least on his web site. Regarding still being fond of the "Dr." moniker, he does have a semester of college, doesn't that entitle one to something? :)

    Speaking of Phony "Doctors"

While we are talking people caught using fraudulent academic credentials ...

Let's not forget about an individual who is larger than life in more ways than one.

I am currently working on a chapter addressing the psychology of fraud, lying and deceit as it applies to to the use of fraudulent credentials. The research suggests that those that perpetuate such ongoing facades actually convince themselves that they are who they claim to be. Reality goes out the window, and the continual lying actually becomes their own reality. Fascinating stuff, which I would love to delve into more deeply later as a journal article.

I hope that you mention how academic fraud is almost irresistible to NPD's. :D

Just wondering whether that could be:

    (persons with)

    Narcissistic
    Personality
    Disorder?

Just a point of interest.....the reality show that "Dr. Tiy-E" is currently on (the Gilligan's Island one) lists him as "Professor of Psychology & Sexuality".

I'm now convinced those shows are staged, because I know the guy who's playing "Gilligan" (Sean Manning), who's a total jerk on the show. In reality, he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Hey how about Dr. Dre? He's a rapper, music producer but not a doctor and he doesn't have a PhD. :D

And should we arrest basketball great Julius Erving "Dr. J" for practicing medicine without a license?

I believe Dr. J has at least one honorary doctorate, no?

In any case, he should be awarded a Doctor of Education for his life accomplishments. He certainly took a lot of basketball players to school. :D

Oh, but Dr. J was calling himself a doctor even while he was still an undergrad.

But, even if the authorities were so inclined to prosecute that case, it would be moot. Assuming, of course that Eminem, aka Slim Shady, aka Marshall Bruce Mathers, is telling the truth when he says, "And what does Dr. Dre say? Nothing, you idiots! Dr. Dre's dead! He's locked in my basement!"
