How many fathers do we have out there? How many single fathers with either joint or primary custody of their children. Up until the middle of last year when I remarried, I was a single pop to two marvalous kids - ages 12 and 16. Both have their own special personalities which are very different from mine - and at least my son is very independent and very muscially talented (earned his letterman jacket in his Freshman year and is slated to be one of the youngest drum majors in the band next year). My daughter is getting there yet still has that special "little girl" inside of her. She even reads to me every night (at the 11th grade level - not bad for a 6th grader). I usually don't do much for Father's day - but this year I am going to take the two out (along with my current wife) to see Star Wars and then to Jack's Brew Pub for a daddy's day special. Even with a solid job, several college degrees, and a couple of nice homes, I can say that nothing else compares to the accomplishment of being a father. Even when times are rough, the two can smile and make their pop smile as well... Just my two - have a great father's day! W.
I have to work, so my wife is bringing the kids to see her parents for the day (my dad lives out-of-state). The following Sunday is going to be "our" Father's Day, we're all going out to my favorite place for brunch, where I no doubt will exceed the recommended daily caloric intake by 10X in one sitting.
I'm probably going to sulk because of all the chastisement I've taken for my vigorous posts on this forum these last couple days.
No doubt my mother will make a one-mile drive over here in her big beastly green Bravada and spirit me away to the parental units' home. No doubt I'll get some free food out of the deal. And I'll probably get to see my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. At least that's my best guess. -

In addition to celebrating father's day, we're holding a surprise birthday party for my dad's 80th birthday. At 80, my dad still drives a truck Mon-Fri. and works a second job on Sat. at a recycling facility.
Father's Day My 18 year old grandaughter (one of 11 grandchildren) is visiting us in Oklahoma. Since her father is busy working in Alabama, she wants to celebrate Father's Day with "pops." Bill
Well, it looks like there's some sort of a Father's Day cookout at the CMA Church today, so I'll probably go to that if I can get myself looking reasonably respectable within a couple of hours.
That is so cool! I like when I hear that at 80 your dad is still active. I can only hope that I am the same way at 80! I lost my father 9 years ago this month - he was only 57. He was a good joe but I didn't see him much in my childhood (he had four jobs - I always wondered as a child how he afforded to have my mom stay at home)

Our fellow folk-dancer (although totally deaf) Pamela has ridden from Reno to Santa Barbara on her recumbent bicycle, and will go on a 50 bike ride with her father, who is 95. I'll just sit home with my already-arrived-from-Oregon gift, a Darth Vader sippy mug, watching Tiger Woods storm from behind to win the . . . no, wait, he doesn't do that sort of thing any more.

I was a Personnelman. I completed seven deployments. I was assigned to a strike fighter squadron, a helo squadron, a Seabee Battalion, a destroyer, a frigate and 4 PSDs (I was CPOIC at the last one). When my daughter was younger, she would say "Daddy, don't wear the brown (khaki) shirt today, wear a red one instead." Because she knew I was going to work when I was wearing my uniform.
