Nothing new there. She wasn't abused. She was brain-dead. Her husband acted well within the law. The people who claim they support the sanctity of the marriage, claim they support the states'--not the Feds--to make local decisions, and yet propelled the Feds right into the middle of this were so wrong it was, well, stupid.

It was remarkable how quickly those people were willing to toss out their "principles" in order to interfere with this case--and all for naught.

Any yet there are still unanswered questions.

Like what? Except for how it originally happened, there aren't any. "Unanswered questions" sounds sinister. My wife will tell you people get sick for all kinds of reasons, often not determined. We don't know why she went brain dead, but the two prevailing theories--abuse or an eating disorder--were not supported.

This thing has been cut-and-dried for years. That poor woman was used by the Right to foist their agenda on the rest of America--who caught on quickly and knew better. Now it is clear they, from Frist to Bush to the rest of those buttinskys, didn't have a clue what they were talking about. But the doctors and the courts did. Do you think Frist will apologize for his diagnosis from the Senate floor? Don't hold your breath. (And even if you do, the Righties will try to make you breathe against your will....)

I find so disturbing to see how the family of this poor lady was accusing Schiavo of abusing her so bad it provoked her brain damage. Thank god the doctors have confirmed today what was obvious to most people, that she died 15 years ago victim of a heart problem. I hope they now let this man live his live.

What bothered me the most was the hypocrisy of those who screamed against Federal court review in the Schiavo case, since they are mostly the same people who want endless Federal review of state death penalty cases. Apparently, defenseless women aren't deserving of protection in their eyes, while convicted murderers are.

Does anyone know if Sen. Frist has a medical degree?

He does, Senator Frist is a surgeon in the real world. Quite a talented surgeon, from what I've read.

yes, he saved a colleagues life when he had a heart attack. He is still a first class demogogue proving that education and talent doesn't equal common sense. (and despite how much education you have, you cannot make a medical diagnosis from the Senate floor  )

Darn, that messes up the idea of charging him with practicing medicine without a license (since, alas, he apparently does have one).

Just out of curiosity, was this colleague a Democrat, a Republican, or independent/third party?

    Interesting

On that note, I heard there is a petition going around asking the Medical Review board to investigate his actions in the Schiavo case. The complaint is that a Medical Doctor should never, ever give a diagnosis based on video or second hand testimony, like he did.

I hope he gets his Medical license revoked.

    Re: Interesting

Yes indeed! Then he won't be able to travel to Africa to provide free medical care to impoverished third-world residents, as he does now when Congress is not in session.

After all, it's far more important that Senator Frist is embarrassed and inconvenienced, than it is for desperately ill people to get first-class medical treatment.

There were many on the "left" who came to Schiavo's defense as well. As Andy Griffith would say, "Let's be fair about this thing."

Anyway, why is a person's right to life a "left/right" issue? Why isn't simply a human rights issue?

This has fascinated me as well.

I think the left has warped its thinking on the value of life through its enthusiastic support of abortion as a matter of basic human rights. When you support the extermination of 40 million human beings in the womb over the course of 30 years, to keep yourself from going mad, you must make that life less valuable in your eyes--subhuman. Hence, the very tiny child with a separate DNA, brain and central nervous system becomes a mere tissue mass and part of the mother's body--"My body, my choice!" Such dangerous lies have become the bywords of this dangerous movement.

If you can categorize a perfectly healthy baby who just happens to yet reside within the womb as "subhuman", it's but a small leap to similarly categorizing those with brains not functioning as well as the average person. Therefore, those who are "persistently vegetative" (an oxymoron, as they are not unthinking vegetables--that is known as "brain dead", and Ms Schiavo was never classified as that) are considered "subhuman" as well.

Next on the docket? The elderly, senile folks. Why waste resources on gramps when he's not himself anymore? Can't dress himself? Just stares at the TV in the nursing home all day? Let's "put him out of his misery" as well.

Don't believe me? It's happening right now in Scandanavia.

Just wait until these Baby Boomers who propped up a culture of death for the last 30 years for their own convenience move into old age and become inconvenient themselves. Talk about reaping what you've sown! G-d help us, as much acrimony as I have with many Baby Boomers for propping up this nonsense, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It's enough to make one shudder.

Next on the docket, I think, might be: manic-depressives, epileptics, diabetics, people with kidney problems, fat people, ugly people, broke people, and any other category that Ted Heiks might belong to. Eh?

Ted, you have this peculiar genius for making light of anything. Any jokes on the Holocaust in your repertoire?

No thanks. Too many Kurtzes and Baumanns in the Holocaust. And a few of each on Schindler's list, thank YHWH!
