On another forum I am the subject of some stinging (yeah, sure ) criticism about not publishing. Of course, I have published a doctoral dissertation, which none of those wags can even understand. Still....

I thought I'd mention that I've published an article in a journal, the Career Planning and Adult Development Journal. Entitled "Accreditation and Acceptance of Degrees in the Workplace," the article appears in the Summer 2004 issue, a special one on distance learning. The journal is a professional one, focused on practicing career counselors.

Of course, I find this development as boring as my dissertation, but it, once again, proves those clowns at another forum to be what they really are.

As a practitioner, not an academic, I don't really have time to write journal articles. As for working in acadmia, yeah, sure. Just as soon as they triple the salaries for assistant professors, I'll consider it.

There are some other interesting articles in the issue, including one by some guy named Bear.

    Rich,

Congratulations on your publication! I was hoping that your research would find its way into the professional journals. It really is work that needs to be disseminated widely into the field. I will recommend it to my colleagues in our human resource development BA and MA programs. I also plan to cite it in my upcoming conference presentations in Wisconsin and Florida.

Thank you for your contribution to the field. Fortunately, your few but vocal critics have contributed exactly nothing to the world of scholarship.

    Take care,

    Congrats on the publication!!!

I'm also a practitioner. I had an article published before I went into financial services, but before I finished my DBA, I co-authored a paper for the Hawaiian business conference. I received a light wrist tap for not having put it through compliance first. When I was ready to submit my final dissertation to UMI, I asked if they wanted a copy for compliance. I showed the stack of paper to the new manager, and he said not needed.

I've thought of doing some research, and perhaps get published again, but like you, I'm more of a practitioner.......... and I'm still paying off student loans.

Of course if I could find funding.........

Between the salary I used to make and what I make now, I guess I'm already "funded." What I don't have is the time or the focus. I'm considering doing a presentation before a professional association, but I haven't taken that plunge yet.

The only reason for mentioning it is because the, um, "interesting characters" posting in another forum were getting it wrong. Interesting in that they complain about my RA Ph.D. and (incorrectly) my lack of publication when they've done neither. D-uh!
