I've had a concerned inquiry about the above-named organization, which is currently advertising in the US and in Asia to hire consultants to send to the Middle East. The ad apparently has only an AOL address ([email protected]).

A Google search finds 3 addresses in Florida, all from second-hand sources (other ads they've placed; yellow pages). No website was found.

24081 Treasure Island Blvd., Punta Gorda, FL 33955, where the phone, (941) 505-9694 has been disconnected.

919 Lassino Court, Punta Gorda, FL 33950, where the phone (941) 639-8010, rang but was unanswered by person or machine, twice during business hours.

4190 Strombus Road, Venice, FL 34293, which did not turn up in a Google search.

President E. R. Amerie is also listed elsewhere as the President of Canedcom International, 54 Asterfield Dr., Suite 101, Toronto M1E 5J5 Canada, where the phone, (416) 286-1679 is out of service. Also has an AOL email as [email protected].

The only other name found, Nellie Jarrett, VP Human Resources (at the Venice address) is not findable on Google.

So the red flags are waving . . . as these people continue to advertise regularly in major publications, including the Chronicle of Higher Education using only the AOL address as contact information. (http://chronicle.com/jobs/id.php?id=0000414265-01)

While this is not a degree-granting entity, it is a rather troublesome matter in higher education, and the sleuthing skills of people better at it than I would be most welcome, either posted here, or privately at [email protected]

    Thanks.

The three addresses are all in southern Florida, as is Sunrise. Sunrise was the home of Sheila Danzig.

IIRC, this seems similar to the way she started up MIGS. She advertised for faculty and through those contacts found a legitimate academic type to play figurehead for MIGS.

CANEDCOM seems to have made its money through agencies like the World Bank for helping with educational programs in places like Sri Lanka. I'm guessing that this deal is more of the same from Amerie.

You wouldn't suspect anything untoward coming through such a benefactor as the World Bank, would you?

You may be interested in searching the State of Florida's Secretary of State database for entries using those corporate names or personal names of officers, directors or registered agents.

I have searched on just the name you entered and found a few entries.

The website (it is indeed an official state of Florida website although it does not give that impression based on the site name) is www.sunbiz.org.

If you encounter any problems or need instruction please feel free to contact me or ask any Florida librarian at www.askalibrarian.org

What a great resource. Thank you, Matthew.

Since E. R. Amerie and Nellie Jarret are the only two names mentioned in the AIDC information, and since the co-director of AIDC per the Florida list is Nellie Amerie, this suggests the likelihood of literally a 'mom and pop' operation.
